Hiking Palm Canyon East Fork - Palm Springs
We enjoyed last weeks hike, the Andreas and the Murray Canyon trail, so much that we decided to do the Palm Canyon, East Fork Loop this Thursday. This was a 7.5 mile loop hike that took us 3.5 hours to complete. It was 1,100 feet total elevation change and we rated this hike moderate because of a few areas of rock climbing.
We drove up to the Trading Post at the Indian Canyons, Aqua Caliente Indian Reservation. Just before we started our trek we stopped to watch at hummingbirds at several large water feeders. In the above video you will see some really closeup shots of these fearless tiny birds fending for their food against competing bees. We were so amazed that they were not afraid of the bees or getting their pictures taken.
The Palm Canyon hike was just as beautiful as last weeks trek but a lot longer. The trails lead to beautiful desert scenery and it was hard to imagine we were so close to civilization. Watch the above video and enjoy watching hummingbirds and the magnificent fan palms and more.

Hike to Murray and Andreas Canyon Trail in Palm Springs to Seven Sisters Falls
There are few things more wonderful than trekking across a foreboding, seemingly barren desert landscape and ending up welcomed into a lush canyon oasis — and Murray Canyon provides that feeling in spades, with the additional joy of a series of small cascades tucked deep in its rocky recesses.
This is a wonderful desert hike — but despite the ample oases and water, remember that it is a desert hike. You’ll want to start early and pack plenty of water, sunscreen, and hats — especially for the sections where you’ll be hiking out in the open. But with the proper gear and right attitude, this can be a fairly moderate family-friendly hike and a wonderful introduction to the world of palm oases.

Tahquitz Canyon Loop Trail

During a sunny morning we walked the Tahquitz Canyon Loop trail (3.5 miles / 300 ft. gain). At the Visitor Centre, you pay the admission fee and get provided a trail map, which list out the points of interests.
The trail let you walk along Native American sites from rock mortars, rock art, natural shelters, and even an old ditch. The highlight is the spectacular 60 ft (18 m) waterfall.

Hiking Day 7: Mission Creek Preserve, Desert Hot Springs
Hiking Day 7: Mission Creek Preserve, Wildlands Conservancy
This 4,760-acre preserve owned by the Wildlands Conservancy is located in the transition zone between the Sonoran and Mojave deserts, with flora and fauna representing both deserts. You’ll traverse wetlands through erosion-striated hills, dry desert and a perennial stream. Be on the lookout for several animals that inhabit these parts, including deer, bear, bighorn sheep and mountain lions. In the spring, you will be treated to an explosion of wildflowers. Plan to picnic at the end of the main trail inside a stone house with picnic tables inside or near the parking area under rustic stone shade structures, the remains of what was once a dude ranch for celebrities looking to escape the limelight.
Quick tips: 3.5 miles; easy hike; approximately 2 hours
Insider tips: For those with a desire for more adventure, the main trail connects to the famous Pacific Crest Trail as well as the Whitewater Preserve—another great hiking opportunity.
