Almaden Property Management San Jose Presents: Fly over of Mine Hill Furnace @ Quicksilver Park
This video is about New Almaden Quicksilver Mines in San Jose, California. Back in the 19th Century, 4,000 people once lived and worked in the Quicksilver Mines. Today, these communities still stand as ghost towns. The New Almaden Quicksilver County Park Association built trails that are open for everyone to hike and bike on.
Music used: Dusty Road, Where I Am From, and Golden Days from the Youtube Audio Library.

Hiking - Quicksilver Trail in Almaden / San Jose | Conner Stevens
This is a great trail to get fit, enjoy the weather and views of Almaden and San Jose. Everyone hiking was super friendly and was very generous on helping us where to go. We took the Deep Gulch Trail which is a little more difficult but has a lot of shade from the trees. We cut over to the right at English Camp and went back to the entrance on Mine Hill Trail. You have to enjoy the history here when you hike up to English Camp. It's crazy to see how people lived back in the 1840's.
Hacienda Cemetery 1963
Hacienda Cemetery in New Almaden, California, circa 1963. The California Pioneers manage and maintain this cemetery, which is open to the public. The cemetery, cut in two by a road in the 1920s, is situated beside a creek on Bertram Road in New Almaden. It's the final resting place for early pioneers, miners, families, and even a severed arm! Many stories (some of them spectral) surround the cemetery, and it remains a quiet, mysterious tribute to bygone mining days.

Almaden Quicksilver County Park - Mine Hill Trail and April Trail Loop
Out for a quick mid-morning hike with Rose and Clyde.
Some minor scuttling leads to an interesting find. And those bugs are really loud.
Almaden Quicksilver is an old Mercury mine that was taken over by the county park system in the 1970's and has since been slowly restored.

Almaden, California
Almaden is an upper-class neighborhood of about 37,000 in the southwestern portion of San Jose, California. The neighborhood is south east of the town of Los Gatos, west of the Santa Teresa neighborhood of San Jose and south of Coleman Ave. at the southern end of the Blossom Hill neighborhood of San Jose. It is named after the New Almaden Quicksilver Mines, which were named after the mercury mine in (old) Almadén, Spain, and produced mercury that was used to process ore during the Gold Rush.
New Idria Quicksilver Mine Day Trip
Linda and I took a day trip to the New Idria Mine and Ghost Town in San Benito County, CA on January 31,2013. Great California Historical Landmark. The ghost town burned in 2010 and access is now limited, but it is still worth the 54 mile drive from the intersection of Hwy 25 at Paicines, CA. It is especially pretty at this time of year when the pastures and farm lands are a vibrant green.

Mercury in the Bay (updated) - KQED QUEST
There's a hidden danger that has been lurking in the San Francisco Bay since the days of Gold Rush mining: mercury. In 2008, the regional Water Board launched a multi-billion-dollar plan to clean up this potent neurotoxin, but mercury levels in fish and wildlife remain as high as ever.
