Norton Air Force Base Museum (City of San Bernardino)
(San Bernardino)To preserve, honor and promote the history of the Norton Air Force Base
That’s the mission of The Norton Air Force Base Museum located on the edge of what is now the site of the San Bernardino International Airport.
The Norton Air Force Base Museum occupies a small corner of what used to be a huge operation here in San Bernardino.
Norton Air Base began its life in 1942 ferrying parts to the war effort in World War II. Its name comes from a hero of that conflict, Leyland Norton, who was a pilot and a San Bernardino native.
Located within the former remodeled and renovated NCO Club Building, the Norton AFB Museum has grown into wonderful historical attraction. The 63rd / 445th Norton Veterans Group Memorial is located just outside the Museum honoring those who still serve, or have served, our military.
Additionally, an actual piece of the infamous Berlin wall is on display.. There is also a small gift shop.
The Museum is free, is handicapped accessible, and welcomes guests of all ages. Open 10 AM to 2:00PM every Thursday and Saturday.

Description
Everything San Bernardino
(San Bernardino) On Thursday, November 5, Ron Young presented “Everything Important to Me, Happened in San Bernardino....Well, Almost. This program was a nostalgic look back to what it was like for Ron as well as everyone else who grew up in this town during the 1950's and 60's. During this walk down memory lane, Ron invited those attending to join in and their share stories as well.
Ron's family moved to San Bernardino when he was 3 years old and he grew up in a home on Sierra Way. His childhood was filled with wonder awe, tragedy and disappointment, but it was these elements in his life that led him to follow his passion of entertaining. Named Class Clown and Most Talented in his senior year in High School, Ron pursued his dream of acting and becoming a radio personality.
Over the years, you have heard his voice on commercials, infomercials, narration and at one time he was on over 140 radio stations across the country on Unistar Satellite radio. Locally, he was part of the morning team of Harv and Youngstuff on KCKC Radio in the 80’s. He has worked in radio from Palm Springs, to Los Angeles as well as Hawaii and Guam.
Proudly, he states, his story began here in San Bernardino and it is this story that he presented, “Everything I ever learned, I learned in San Bernardino… Well, almost”

The C-141 Hanoi Taxi
Walk through the famous C-141 Starlifter Hanoi Taxi at Dayton Ohio's USAF Museum.
According to Wikipedia, “Hanoi Taxi is a Lockheed C-141 Starlifter strategic airlift aircraft (serial number 66-0177) that was in service with the United States Air Force and became famous for bringing back the first returned prisoners of war in Operation Homecoming. This aircraft, which was delivered to the Air Force in 1967, was the last C-141 to be withdrawn from service after a career of almost 40 years, as the last of the fleet was retired in 2006 as sufficient C-17 Globemaster III aircraft became available in the regular Air Force to allow C-141s still serving with Air Force Reserve units to be replaced by the C-5 Galaxy aircraft being seconded from the regular Air Force. The Hanoi Taxi is currently housed at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, near Dayton, Ohio.
For much of the late 1960s and early 1970s, 66-0177 flew out of Norton Air Force Base, San Bernardino, California with the 63rd Military Airlift Wing (MAW). The Hanoi Taxi flew Bob Hope to USO shows in South Vietnam.[1] The Hanoi Taxi was used in 1973, in the final days of the Vietnam War, to repatriate American POWs from North Vietnam. Arizona Senator John McCain was one of the POWs who flew home on the Hanoi Taxi. The Hanoi Taxi's name comes from the writing on the flight engineer's panel by the POWs aboard the plane for the freedom flight...”
Former Air Force One VC-137C at Reagan Presidential Library
United States Air Force Boeing VC-137C (707-353B)
72-7000 (cn 20630/862) aka SAM 27000
Here's a close-up look at a piece of history on display at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. This aircraft served from the Nixon Administration & made her final Presidential flight on August 29, 2001, when it flew President George W Bush from San Antonio to Waco, Texas. Following the flight, it was formally decommissioned then flown to San Bernardino International Airport (former Norton AFB) in California. I threw in some shots of a former Marine One as well, a Sikorsky VH-3A Sea King (S-61B) 150611 (cn 61093). I also include some footage of a former Navy Grumman F-14A Tomcat 162592 / AJ-101 (cn 514) Ex VF-1, VF-21, VF-154, and the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (Top Gun) aircraft. As you can see, its AIM-7, AIM-9 & ATM-54A Phoenix are still there.
