Insider's Guide - Palm Springs: Architectural Oasis in the Desert
In Episode 1 of the Insider's Guide we travel to Palm Springs, California to admire its unique architecture and learn why so many fascinating people have built their lives in the desert. Palm Springs was once a secluded retreat for Hollywood stars - a small paradise for sun-drenched rest and rejuvenation during the winter months. Today, the 45,000 year-long residents of Palm Springs retain the fun, carefree character and architecture of the Hollywood heyday, but blend that history with modern cultural activities that attract artists, designers and architects from around the world.
U.S. Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt wrote an introduction for the video series in @HuffingtonPostGreece:
“We chose these tourist destinations because they are off the beaten path. They were created from a vision. They were created from that sense of possibility that is a defining feature of the American West. I am a proud Californian. Reinvention is a theme for West Coast Americans. Success in the West comes from fostering a creative environment that allows the best ideas to flourish—that’s the transformative power of Silicon Valley. But these photogenic towns and cities tell new stories of entrepreneurial energy. They show the possibilities from collaboration between local government, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. These destinations show how citizen involvement can transform communities. We highlight tourism entrepreneurs who have prospered by protecting and projecting the local character of their home towns.
In just a few weeks here, I have already met Greeks working with the same spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. And I have met Greeks who are eager to raise Greek tourism—which includes some of the most stunning destinations on the planet—to the next level. When you unleash your entrepreneurial spirit and start new collaborations, you never know where it may lead. Visit the Utopia of Arcosanti and take in Desert Art in Palm Springs.

Presenting 9359 Ladera Road Glen Ellen, CA
Listed by Maurice Tegelaar and Matt Sevenau with Pacific Union International in Sonoma, CA.
5430 O'Donnell Lane Glen Ellen, CA 95442 ~ Downtown Glen Ellen present by Tina Shone
Just over the little brick bridge on O’Donnell Lane, this charming cottage style residence sits on a triangle of land at the confluence of Calabazas and Sonoma Creeks. The interior includes three bedrooms and two full baths.
At the front gateway, where you enter from the lane, the house name Creekbottom is hand carved into the lintel. As you enter, a giant heritage oak stands to your left, and another stands behind you across the lane. The limbs of the oaks spread broadly overhead. Through the gateway, a one hundred yard view stretches ahead of you over a long green lawn.
As you walk through the oak shaded yard, a cool refuge on hot summer days, a stone pathway leads past the front terrace. The terrace is paved with brick and framed by a boxwood hedge. Stepping onto the terrace, the house spreads before you and wraps around the terrace at each end. A brick chimney stands between twin sliding glass doors, each eight feet wide. When the doors are open, they unite the brick terrace with the 25 foot living room within. The entry door is to the left, at a corner of the terrace. It includes a small leaded glass window to admit natural light into the entry hall beyond.
The kitchen, dining, and living room areas are all open to one another. Together they make a generous unified space, yet each is distinct in accord with its role. The kitchen is compact and shipshape. A tall north window, with hand-carved lettering on the trim, lights the kitchen and gives a view into the lane and beyond.
The laundry is convenient to the kitchen, with a pocket door between. Over forty years of residency, the house has been renovated and added onto with careful attention to design and detail, not only for pleasing appearance, but also for workflow, convenience, and comfort.
Inside, most floors are red oak, solid and thick. All doors are panel doors. Most are made of vertical grain fir with fir trim, naturally aged in color. All doorways are wide. Most rooms have vaulted ceilings and skylights. A third sliding glass door opens from the dining area onto a small deck, a giant heritage bay tree, and a fenced stone terrace. The living room includes a gas fireplace with hand carved cherry mantel and spacious built-in bookshelves. A folding staircase in the back hall gives access to attic space for light weight storage.
Outside, a side path leads down stone steps into a stone walled grotto. It is sheltered from sun on all sides by stands of bamboo and air conditioned by cool air out of Sonoma Creek. Multiple decks offer spots for eating, relaxing, reading and enjoying the beautiful outdoor environment. Outbuildings include a writing studio, a lattice house, and a garage workshop.
The delightful oasis of Creekbottom House sits near the commercial center of Glen Ellen, mere steps to restaurants, stores, and village conveniences. For walkers and bicyclists, the 40+ acres (and expanding) Sonoma Valley Regional Park is a short walk down an adjacent lane, with Jack London State Historical Park within a mile.

DHS secretary denies reintroduction of catch and release at border
Border officials in Texas say they are seeing a sharp increase in migrant apprehensions, as many as 1,000 a day. To handle the surge, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have begun releasing migrants from detention with a notice to appear in court at a later date. It is a policy similar to the one the White House halted last year. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was at the border Thursday. Mireya Villarreal asked Nielsen about the apparent policy change.

Bono Breast Lick Photo Scandal - Guilty?
Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) and Ben Mankiewicz (co-host of The Young Turks) break down a sexually suggestive photo controversy involving Republican Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack.
California 45th congressional district Republican lawmaker, Mary Bono-Mack has been suppossedly photographed letting another woman lick her breast, who is now being investigated by the FBI.
The woman allegedly licking Bono's breast is Edra Blixseth, a former billionaire who is being investigated for fraudulently representing her financial worth to a number of banks.
Bono-Mack, who sits on the Committee on Energy and Commerce, is the widow of singer Sonny Bono and has been in Congress since taking over her husbands seat after his death in 1998.
The Radar photo, guaranteed to have Capital Hill tongues wagging, was taken at an event four-years-ago, at Blixseth's $75 million Porcupine Creek estate in Rancho Mirage, California.
Blixseth, who now dates Dallas actor Jack Scalia after splitting from her husband Tim, a wealthy timber tycoon, in 2008, is seen gleefully lapping Bono's cleavage with her tongue.
The hard partier, once a top Republican Party donor, donated $1,500 to Bono's 2006 congressional campaign and even served as a finance committee member.
Blixseth and her ex-husband, were apparently living a financial lie and were sued by investors of the couple's Yellowstone Club World, a millionaires only private ski and golf resort in Montana, whose members included Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
