Hiking Palm Canyon East Fork - Palm Springs
We enjoyed last weeks hike, the Andreas and the Murray Canyon trail, so much that we decided to do the Palm Canyon, East Fork Loop this Thursday. This was a 7.5 mile loop hike that took us 3.5 hours to complete. It was 1,100 feet total elevation change and we rated this hike moderate because of a few areas of rock climbing.
We drove up to the Trading Post at the Indian Canyons, Aqua Caliente Indian Reservation. Just before we started our trek we stopped to watch at hummingbirds at several large water feeders. In the above video you will see some really closeup shots of these fearless tiny birds fending for their food against competing bees. We were so amazed that they were not afraid of the bees or getting their pictures taken.
The Palm Canyon hike was just as beautiful as last weeks trek but a lot longer. The trails lead to beautiful desert scenery and it was hard to imagine we were so close to civilization. Watch the above video and enjoy watching hummingbirds and the magnificent fan palms and more.
Desert View Notch Trail Hike with Old Friends: Palm Springs Tram
Met up with a couple of old friends Leon and Jeffrey and escaped the desert heat atop the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Hiked along the Desert View aka Notch Trail in much cooler temperatures up top. Elevation of the mountain station of the tram is 8500 feet.

The Palm Canyon Epic is one of the rides you guys kept saying I had to check out. We took the Palm Canyon trail and then climbed the wash up to Hahn Buena Vista to finish out the day. We self-shuttled with two cars and had an awesome time.
Trailforks and MTB Project both list trails that are no longer legal for mountain bikes. There is clear signage along the route that will divert you from the singletrack for a bit.

Joshua Tree in the desert two hours. Palm trees is the world's largest virgin forest in the Indian Canyons. Life is a three-meter-high palm trees of the millennium is a whopping 2600 Luna that here. Yuyao car dry and barren and the Indians lived on this land for thousands of years is. Grounds that their life is the life of this little trail to the oasis is created shabby unmak there are only two in the palm tree leaves. Perhaps the Indians will open with closed expressions Gonna unmak in one of the desert. And the blue sky looks over a perforated ceiling would have given soothe the tired mind and body of the Indians. Palm Canyon next to the Indian Canyons is the largest oasis in California. There are places where Indians jjitdeon the grain remains. Sol somewhere I heard a rippling the waters along the palm tree jungle between the crystal-clear spring water was flowing. This is the surroundings of the ancient Indian settlements as drinking water and could feel the traces of Indians everywhere. The spring water flowing through lush forest scenery, this is a charming place called the chief of the 150 or subtracted oasis of the western United States. I was a tax to cool the heat. It was cool to the chest. The upper valley is a small pond. Travelers have a dip in the cool water was cool the heat of the desert valley. I think in my opinion is the most beautiful place in the world where. Now I'm surrounded by the desert, but the spring water flows wonderful trees. The water is so clear look hwonhi it's really about. Really cool. Nothing great. I think this might be a beautiful place. I think that just like on an island. This is really cool. Itjyo enjoy.

Beware of the Killer Plants! - Riding the Palm Canyon Epic Trail
Ahh what a beautiful morning, I mean just look at that sunrise, it’s a nice 60 degrees out and the trail is lined with bushes out to cause you pain?
Hey All welcome back, on this weeks video we hit up the Palm Canyon Epic Trail. Unfortunately, if you are looking to hit this trail, I would wait!
I highly recommend waiting until some trail crews can roll through with machetes and clear away a lot of the overgrowth. I have no idea what the bushes are called, and if someone recognizes them please let me know what they are called in the comments below. But these bushes look all nice and soft, but they are filled with thorns that will scratch and tug at clothing. Worse of all the bushes leave some sort of toxin on your skin that just burns!
If you do decide know that there is a section of trail that we found impassible by brush and we had to cut over to the wash area and walk down that until we could reconnect with the trail. Hopefully by the time you are watching this a crew and gone and cleaned things up. But back to these bushes, wear protection, Long sleeves, and cover your legs. Failure to do so will cause quite a bit of pain and blood loss.

Driving DOWN The Pines-To-Palms Highway, Palm Desert, CA
A segment of Route 74 named Seven Level Hill, just south of Palm Desert, California, appears in the 1963 American comedy film It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World during the opening minutes of the film, when the major characters of the film meet for the first time following a car accident.
Route 74 between San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore, due to its narrow width and high traffic volume, holds an ominous claim to fame as one of the most dangerous highways in the state.
California's legislature has relinquished state control of segments of SR 74 in Perris and Palm Desert, and turned it over to local control. This includes deleting from the highway code an unconstructed segment that would have extended SR 74 from SR 111 to Interstate 10.
On August 11, 1930, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors officially named the highway from San Jacinto Mountains to the Desert as the Palms to Pines Highway
Hiking San Jacinto from the Palm Springs Tram
San Jacinto is one of the most approachable of the 10,000-foot peaks in Southern California. I always enjoy taking the tram up from the desert to do this 12-mile round trip hike, but don't underestimate it as the elevation is still large so you will be feeling its effects. Once you get to the summit though you get to see amazing views all the way down to the desert floor and it is a pretty amazing experience.
