Pisgah National Forest - North Carolina
North Carolina's Pisgah National Forest covers a vast area of 512,758 acres. The forest was created in 1916 after the purchase of 86,700 acres form the estate of George Vanderbilt II who built the famous Biltmore Estate near Asheville. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through much of the Forest and is a popular tourist destination especially in the fall when the mountains are ablaze with color. • Hoedown by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (

Winter Camping 101 - Pisgah National Forest
Shaphan, Tracy, Adam and I head up into Pisgah National Forest for a Winter Camping 101 Shakedown. Tracy and Adam have never camped in the winter. With this in mind, we head into the backcountry to get their winter camping on. We start with a tour through Wilson Creek Gorge area, a stop at Betsey's Ole Country Store and an unforgettable hotdog served by Sarah with an H. Continuing into the backcountry, we find a fantastic spot, dig a well at a spring head, start a fire in the wet forest and camp in the clouds. Tracy's trail name is born...We cap it off with breakfast with Shug at Famous Louise's! Come along and enjoy a great weekend in a majestic place!

Took a drive through part of the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina, towards the end of last winter. Lots of beautiful scenery; waterfalls, springs, mountainsides, trees, etc. This area is located near Asheville, North Carolina. The Pisgah National Forest is a land of mile-high peaks, cascading waterfalls, and heavily forested slopes. Comprised of over 500,000 acres, the Pisgah is primarily a hardwood forest with whitewater rivers, waterfalls and hundreds of miles of trails.
This national forest is home of the first tract of land purchased under the Weeks Act of 1911 which led to the creation of the national forests in the eastern United States. It is also home of the first school of forestry in the United States, now preserved at the Cradle of Forestry in America historic site, and boasts two of the first designated wilderness areas in the east. The Pisgah, Grandfather and Appalachian Ranger Districts are scattered along the eastern edge of the mountains of western North Carolina and offer visitors a variety of opportunities for outdoor recreation and enjoying the natural beauty of the mountains.
The national forests in North Carolina offer a wide variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. From the mountains to the sea, there are many exciting adventures awaiting your visit to these national forests. Please keep in mind that all outdoor recreational activities on the Croatan, Pisgah, Nantahala and Uwharrie national forests, including activities at recreation sites, have inherent risks due to the natural setting in which they occur. Always remember, your safety is your responsibility.

Avery Creek in the Pisgah National Forest
What a great private spot to picnic, take a cool dip and just enjoy these realizing falls. Best yet t can be accessed easily as well as children can enjoy a cool dip and just plan fun in nature. It is just a short distance past the riding stables just a few miles in from the Entrance to the Pisgah National Forest in Brevard, North Carolina.
The trail into the Avery's Creek falls is an easy walk in, with walk boards with small bridges crossing over the wet areas, protecting the natural flora and habitat. We even took our family dog a small Shih Tzu that had as much fun as we did. I even noticed several great camping areas where you can tent camp, and saw tracks of mountain bikers.
I hope you enjoy the video and come see us in Brevard Norht Carolina and Transylvania County where we are the head waters of the great French Broad River.
