Clarno Rapid, John Day River
This shows Clarno Rapid at about 1,450 CFS at the Service Creek gage. Our group had all run the rapid multiple times before, but at higher levels. We chose to pass on scouting to move downriver before the very common up canyon winds really kicked in. We all ran generally the left side and all of us went up and over a rock in the very last wave of the drop. The rock itself was not visible but my frame did a very good job of finding it while it passed over the top.
The GoPro camera was mounted to the front of the drybox which is also the front passenger seat. This mounting blocks the cameras view somewhat, but it is very stable. The last part of the drop is slowed down so that you can better see the visible rocks and the indicators for the not so visible rocks.
2011.08.15 - Green River rafting Trip
For our annual weeklong campout, we took our scouts to Green River, Utah, where we rafted 68 miles from Green River State Park to Mineral Bottom. We left Monday morning, and returned Friday evening. We used homemade 2-man pontoon rafts. To round out the trip to an even 70 miles, the scouts hiked two miles from the Mineral Bottom pull out to the top of the cliffs above.

Canoeing The Green River - Canyonlands Natl. Park - Into Stillwater Canyon
SEPTEMBER 24th - 29th, 2011. A 5 night, 6 day, 53 mile adventure down The Green River in Southeastern Utah. Most of the video you see here is the Stillwater Canyon stretch of the Green River or what most people call The Lower Half. Most of this section is part of the Canyonlands National Park and requires a permit due to the high amount of traffic and canoeing adventureurs. The entire stretch from the town of Green River to The Confluence is 120 miles and is sutible for a canoe as there are no rapids to swamp you out. This makes for a very calm and enjoyable canoe trip!
The upper half (from Ruby Ranch to Mineral Bottom) can be viewed here:
