Portland Rose Garden Little Artist
In 1888, Georgiana Burton Pittock, wife of pioneer publisher Henry Pittock, invited her friends and neighbors to exhibit their roses in a tent set up in her garden. Thus began the annual rose show for Portland Rose Society. Jesse A. Currey, a former Rose Society president, convinced city fathers to inaugurate a rose test garden in 1917 with the support of the American Rose Society, City officials, and civic --minded citizens. At that time, Portland had 20 miles of rose-bordered streets -- a strategy to draw attention to the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial celebration. As a result, Portland was dubbed City of Roses. The garden was a perfect opportunity for enhancing that reputation.
Founded in 1917, Portland's International Rose Test Garden is the oldest official, continuously operated public rose test garden in the United States. In the beginning, even though World War I was raging in Europe, hybridists sent roses from around the world to Portland's garden for testing and to keep the new hybrids safe from being destroyed by the bombing in Europe.

Almost every day, Jon walks the Oregon State University campus. The same campus he stepped on as a freshman years ago, not knowing that a series of God interventions in his life would lead him to pioneer a ministry to students just like him.
Marys River Natural Area: NRCS WRP Site
About 30 students from Philomath High School's Advance Botany class helped in restoration efforts at one of NRCS-Oregon's Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) conservation easements on May 11 in Corvallis.
Sara Stevens, an employee of the Institute for Applied Ecology (IAE) who manages the institute's Ecological Education Program, instructed and supervised the students in the planting of native shrubs to help stabilize the stream bank and also dozens of native grasses, sedges and rushes to help increase plant diversity.
This 74 acre site, called the Marys River Natural Area, has been in the WRP since 1996. It was originally privately owned but was later purchased by the City of Corvallis. Besides IAE, and the City of Corvallis, major partners in restoration of this project include the, Marys River Watershed Counsel, US Fish and Wildlife, and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
NRCS Oregon currently has over 120 easements totaling approximately 57,000 acres enrolled in the WRP across the state.

We took a trip to Oregon State University for a College Basketball game. Very last minute plan, yet still ended up goin and having a really good time.
