Sandman Out West - Travelling My Own Way (TMOW) Part 6
Hi Everyone Sandman Here,
On the sixth day I woke up just outside of Joshua Tree National Park and that was my first stop to hopefully shoot some stock video footage. This place like many I visited along route 66 were absolutely infested by middle aged wanna be bikers. Mostly Germans coming over from Europe renting motorcycles and riding around. Many of the Japanese people I met on my trip were around the best nature had to offer. But the Germans wanted to see the old cars and ride motorcycles. If you're ever going to Joshua Tree the best thing to do is make a loop entering on the north side, going toward the middle and then exiting on the second point of entry in the north end of the park. Originally I had wanted to drive from the south but I met a few so called bikers that told me there wasn't much in the south part of the park so I'm glad I didn't come up from that direction. After finishing up I started heading west towards the Coachella valley and saw thousands of Windmills on my way to Palm Springs. You hear tales about how great Palm Springs is supposed to be but besides the main strip it's kind of a cheesy place in the desert for rich tourists. I wasn't there to drink lattes and shop. Instead I was there to check out Ruddy's General Store Museum and see all the products that Mr. Ruddy had collected. Most of them were still in their original packages. But I don't think I would have wanted to eat Ketchup back from 1955. There's a section with original clothing that was unworn. And there's even a secret door in the corner covered in products. I've never seen anything like that before and thought it was pretty cool. And the admission price is only ninety five cents and the woman holding the fort give you a great history lesson about the place. After finishing an interview with her I started heading towards San Bernadino to head to the Wigwam Motel. This is one of the three
remaining Tipi motels in America. Two of them are along route 66 and this run by an Indian family and they got their son to run the place. I spent about an hour and a half talking to him about relationships and he's pretty much a MGTOW and we spoke about women for about half an hour. Just before I left I told him I was the Sandman because he shared a similar belief system and I thought he needed to get more red pill knowledge. He's working to put more vintage cars into the place. The pool is also really nice. He even gave me a T-shirt and I got an interview. The following week I visited the other Wigwam motel in Arizona to see what the differences were like night and day. I got a completely different vibe from each place. Maybe one day I'll cover the old red barn burger joints in Canada and the United States. I never knew this but there was a burger chain once upon a time that was just as big as Burger King and McDonalds and it went pork belly up in the early eighties. But with regards to the Wigwam Motel, It's a cool place but I just found that part of San Bernadino kind of run down. I would have stayed there but I had already booked the night in Barstow but first I needed to head over the Long Beach and film the Queen Mary. I lost about an hour hanging out at the Wigwam motel so I didn't really have any time to explore the Queen Mary except from the outside. But I don't think I would have did a tour. After parking and tour tickets it would have cost me about seventy Us dollars which is about one hundred Canadian dollars. It's way too overpriced so I don't really think it's worth it. I could be wrong but I just appreciated this Titanic like ship from the outside and imagined what it would have looked life for something like this to sink into the North Atlantic. After this I headed further south down to see this crazy water tower that was supposedly converted into a home. I heard some stories that it was originally torn down and then they built a home that looked like a water tower in the exact spot. I knocked on the door and rang the buzzer and tried to see if someone was there but they weren't. I also called the agent responsible for renting the property and left a message but she never got back to me. You'd think that people would be interested in renting out their properties but she didn't seem to eager. Tomorrow I'll show you guys some footage from Barstow, as well as a guys pimped out his ride that's a star wars vehicle. There are also a few more ghost towns I ended up throwing into the mix. See you tomorrow.
