St. James Park by Executioner San Jose Punk Band
Brooke Hart (June 11, 1911 -- November 9, 1933) was the oldest son of Alexander Hart, the owner of L. Hart and Son Department Store in San Jose, California. His kidnapping and murder was reported throughout the United States, and the lynching[1] of his alleged murderers, Thomas Harold Thurmond and John M. Holmes (sometimes erroneously referred to as the last public lynching in California).[2] The events sparked political debate.
On the morning the body of Brooke Hart was discovered by duck hunters in San Francisco Bay, word was spread instantly throughout northern California. All day long, radio stations announced that a lynching would take place in St. James Park across from the Santa Clara County Courthouse at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 1933, four days before Thanksgiving. The lynching was broadcast as a 'live' event by a Los Angeles radio station. Scores of reporters, photographers, and news camera operators had rushed in with an estimated 5,000 to 15,000 (other reports where 3,000-5,000) men, women, and children to witness the lynching. When newspaper published photos of the lynching, identifiable faces were deliberately smudged so that they remained anonymous. On Monday, November 27, 1933, the day after the lynchings, Northern California newspapers published 1.2 million copies, twice the normal daily production.
Hart worked in his family's department store during much of his youth, and was well-known and liked by the local community. After he graduated from Santa Clara University, his father made him a junior vice president in the store and began grooming him to take over when he retired. Brooke Hart was considered one of the most desirable bachelors in the Bay Area.

The Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics come from Defence of Fort McHenry, a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812.
The poem was set to the tune of a popular British drinking song, written by John Stafford Smith for the Anacreontic Society, a men's social club in London. The Anacreontic Song (or To Anacreon in Heaven), with various lyrics, was already popular in the United States. Set to Key's poem and renamed The Star-Spangled Banner, it would soon become a well-known American patriotic song. With a range of one and a half octaves, it is known for being difficult to sing. Although the song has four stanzas, only the first is commonly sung today, with the fourth (O thus be it ever when free men shall stand...) added on more formal occasions. In the fourth stanza, Key urged the adoption of In God is our Trust as the national motto (And this be our motto: In God is our Trust). The United States adopted the motto In God We Trust by law in 1956.
The Star-Spangled Banner was recognized for official use by the Navy in 1889 and the President in 1916, and was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931 (46 Stat. 1508, codified at 36 U.S.C. § 301), which was signed by President Herbert Hoover. It was written by Frances Scott Key Before 1931, other songs served as the hymns of American officialdom. Hail, Columbia served this purpose at official functions for most of the 19th century. My Country, 'Tis of Thee, whose melody was derived from the British national anthem, also served as a de facto anthem before the adoption of The Star-Spangled Banner. Following the War of 1812 and subsequent American wars, other songs would emerge to compete for popularity at public events, among them The Star-Spangled Banner.
Lyrics:
Oh, say! can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In fully glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: In God is our trust:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

The Last Lynching in St. James Park, San Jose
In 1933, the last lynching in California history took place in St. James Park in downtown San Jose. Two suspects in the kidnapping and murder of a local man were dragged from their cells and hanged in the park trees. Author and filmmaker John Murphy talks here about why he made a movie about the incident and why he thinks Tom Thurmond and John Holmes were innocent.

Kidnapers Lynched by Enraged Crowd After Jail Battle - San Jose, 1933
Brooke Hart's 1933 kidnapping took San Jose by surprise. In the wake of the kidnapping of Charles Lindbergh's child and the worst year of the Great Depression, this popular young man was snatched from the streets and ransom was demanded of his wealthy family. Brooke Hart was found dead days later, thrown from the San Mateo Bridge. When the alleged kidnappers were caught, justice could not come swiftly enough for the enraged citizens of San Jose. The pair were pulled from the Santa Clara County Jail and lynched in St. James Park. In this clip, Deputy Sheriff and a fellow inmate give rather stunted statements to the newsreel cameras, and crowds mill about the scene of the crime. Governor Rolph, in the interest of quelling what was seen as a wave of kidnappings, praised the event as a statement that the state's citizens would not condone such crimes, and pardoned the lynch mob's members.
If you have memories of this event, photos, or ephemera connected with the kidnapping or lynching, please contact Film@CaliforniaPioneers.com
We are interested in preserving statements and artifacts from the crime, before the last memories of the event pass on.

Saint James Park and the Lords Work
His sleeping bag is his home. Not only is it his home but it seconds as a Back Pack that contains his paper work, identification, money, etc. (All he has left in this world) It is not garbage and should be booked into evidence for safe keeping (That is policy under the SJPD duty manual but is not followed)
City officials don't give a shit about the property rights of the Homeless or Houseless in the City of San Jose.
I am calling on the good men and women (beat officers) to start protecting the property rights of the people that have it the hardest. You officers can do the right thing and stop criminalizing poverty. The City you work for is exterminating the homeless / mentally ill and you officers can make a stand. These people need someone in their corner to help protect them from Sam Liccardo's Gas Chamber under San Jose City Hall.
Please book property into evidence for safe keeping.
Please fill out CHP180 forms and inventory a homeless persons belonging when they are living in a car or motor home.
Please treat these people like you would want to be treated.
San Jose Mayor Stinky Sam Liccardo and Police Chief Fast Garcia are well aware of this shameful activity and they continue to turn a blind eye. (There are several front row seats in Hell waiting for these Muppet's)
Unless you come from wealth, power, influence, or Bellarmine these city leaders don't want you around.
Did I mention they are suing me for exposing their dirty deeds!!!

Homeless in San Jose: Gina & Sam
Gina and Sam are San Jose natives who have been homeless for six years. Recently they set up camp on Lucretia AV. The city just posted notice to sweep. They will move, as usual for the past 6 years, to another spot somewhere either a park or a sidewalk or down the creek again. And then another sweep notice to repeat the cycle. Encampment is no longer just a topic to discuss. It has been and will continue to be a reality here. Our choices: continue to ignore it, or do something about it.

50th Anniversary Celebration of Robert F Kennedy in San Jose (2018)
On March 24, 1968, Robert F Kennedy spoke before a crowd of 10,000 people at St James Park in San Jose, California, less three months before his untimely assassination in Los Angeles.
50 years later, the community of San Jose hosted a special event in St James Park to celebrate the life and legacy of this fallen leader. After some fine speeches about this event, actor Jeffrey Brian Adams provided a re-enactment of Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 speech.
… and this is a video of that event.
