Experts Believe San Andreas Fault 'Mega Quake' Could Start at California's Salton Sea
As Interstate 10 snakes through the mountains and toward the golf courses, housing tracts and resorts of the Coachella Valley, it crosses the dusty slopes of the San Gorgonio Pass.
The pass is best known for the spinning wind turbines that line it. But for geologists, the narrow desert canyon is something of a canary in the coal mine for what they expect will be a major earthquake coming from the San Andreas fault.
The pass sits at a key geological point, separating the low desert from the Inland Empire, and, beyond that, the Los Angeles Basin.
Through it runs an essential aqueduct that feeds Southern California water from the Colorado River as well as vital transportation links. It’s also the path for crucial power transmission lines.
California earthquake experts believe what happens at the San Gorgonio Pass during a major rupture of the San Andreas fault could have wide-ranging implications for the region and beyond.
They worry a huge quake could sever lifelines at the pass for weeks or months, cutting Southern California off from major highway and rail routes as well as sources of power, oil and gas. Southern California’s cities are surrounded by mountains, making access through narrow passes like the San Gorgonio essential.

Two big quakes rock California June 28,1992
Two big quakes rock California June 28,1992
----------
Two of the strongest earthquakes ever to hit California strike the desert area east of Los Angeles on this day in 1992. Although the state sits upon the immense San Andreas fault line, relatively few major earthquakes have hit California in modern times. Two of the strongest, but not the deadliest, hit southern California on a single morning in the summer of 1992.
Just before 5 a.m. on a Sunday morning, a 7.3-magnitude quake struck in Landers, 100 miles east of Los Angeles. Because the Landers area is sparsely populated, damage was relatively minor given the intensity of the jolt. In Los Angeles, residents experienced rolling and shaking for nearly a minute. The tremors were also felt in Arizona, Las Vegas and as far away as Boise, Idaho.
Just over three hours later, a second 6.3-magnitude tremor hit in Big Bear, not too far from the original epicenter. This quake caused fires to break out and cost three people their lives. A chimney fell on a 3-year-old child and two people suffered fatal heart attacks. Between the two quakes, 400 people were injured and $92 million in damages were suffered. The physical damage was also significant. The quakes triggered landslides that wiped out roads and opened a 44-mile-long rupture in the earth, the biggest in California since the 1906 San Francisco quake.
ShakeOut Scenario - Palm Springs, Detailed Perspective
See other animations:
The Great Southern California ShakeOut earthquake drill is based on a magnitude 7.8 scenario earthquake on the San Andreas fault in southern California. This portion of the San Andreas fault has been identified as the most likely source of a very large earthquake in California (Working Group on California Earthquake Probabilities). As part of the earthquake drill, computer simulations of the ground shaking from this scenario earthquake were constructed through a collaborative effort between the USGS and the Southern California Earthquake Center, which involved researchers from the USGS, URS Corporation, San Diego State University, and Carnegie Mellon University. These computer simulations capture the shaking at length scales larger than about 300 ft (100 m) and provide detailed pictures of the shaking for this scenario earthquake.
The magnitude 7.8 scenario earthquake ruptures 186 miles (300 km) of the San Andreas fault from Bombay Beach at the edge of the Salton Sea in the south to Lake Hughes northwest of Palmdale in the north. The final slip (offset across the fault) ranges from 6-23 ft (2-7 m). The colors in the movies indicate the peak intensity of the shaking up to the current time at each location. See Explanation of Colors for a more detailed description of the color scheme.
The movies are available in two different resolutions. The normal resolution versions are typically 10-20 MB in size. The high definition (HD) versions are typically 50-80 MB in size and are best viewed on high resolution displays.
These images and movies are in the public domain and may be used freely. Please credit the U.S Geological Survey and the Southern California Earthquake Center.
Thousand Palms Oasis Preserve in the Coachella Valley, California
The Thousand Palm Oasis in Coachella Valley is an 80-acre jewel of land in the heart of the Southern California desert. The oasis is a home for a grove of giant California fan palms. Their stately trunks soar as high as 60 feet. The Thousand Palm Oasis is located 10 miles east of Palm Springs and fed by water seeping out of the San Andreas Fault.
Hiking inside the San Andreas Fault
In California, when you think of tourist attractions, the San Andreas Fault is certainly not one of them. But there's an unknown area where you can actually hike inside the fault zone. David Begnaud reports.
Little-known Calif. fault could pose bigger danger than San Andreas
Friday's 5.1 earthquake was not on the San Andreas fault, where the so-called big one is expected to occur, but on the Puente Hills thrust fault. A major quake on that fault could rock the most densely populated areas of Los Angeles. Ben Tracy reports.

URGENT: California in need of prayers! Holy Spirit has led me to the San Andreas fault line. WHEN?
Let's all be in prayer for California. The Holy Spirit has led me to see the San Andreas fault line. Will it be next? The actual question is when? Only God knows that, but let's stay in prayer and repentance. Also prayers for Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and all those Islands, Florida and all the places that hurricane Harvey and Irma hit. I'm sorry about the so much cutting of the video! I made it too long and needed to trim a few things out so I could upload it. Nothing important, just a bunch of uh's, ands, a few repeats & stutters.
Share this video and lets get everyone in prayer (by the link provided under the video). Please do not reupload or mirror this video, thank you!
I was just given a link to a dream in the comments below of a 17 year old who had in 1937, God has been warning for years now but no one will listen. PEOPLE...LISTEN TO ALL THE WARNINGS FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT AND GET AWAY FROM THE COAST LINE STATES! YOU'RE RUNNING OUT OF CHANCES AND TIME! HEAR WHAT THE HOLY SPIRIT IS SAYING TO HIS PEOPLE!
You see what just happened in Texas, Florida and it will go on around until ALL the coastal states + have been affected. Repent and take it to the Lord in prayer...He will give you conformation. If you do not heed the warning, your blood is off my hands! You have been warned! Ezekiel 3:18 When I say to a wicked person, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.
The attacks of satan have already began on this video, so I know that I'm on the right track.

Extraordinary Video of the 1992 (7.2) Landers, California Earthquake
-California Earthquake- Landers 1992 Earthquake 4:57 am
-Earthquake Prediction
-San Andreas Fault Line
-June 28, 1992 7.3 Landers Earthquake near Yucca Valley, California. The earthquake was the largest quake to have occurred in the contiguous United States in 40 years. The shaking lasted two to three minutes and was more powerful than the 1994 Northridge earthquake also located in Southern California. The video shows significant damage occurred to the streets and local buildings but damage and loss of life were minimal to what they could have been.
Interesting enough, the 1992 Landers earthquake occurred at 04:57am.
-Sorry about the quality of the tape. It was filmed with an old VHS and then transferred to cd.
Approximately 4 hours prior to the earthquake the dogs in the neighborhood were barking continually for hours. So much that we were unable to sleep. Unusual animal behavior is also a good indication that something out of the ordinary is about to occur. Be aware of the signs.
