San Clemente: A Trail by the Rails
To sum up San Clemente's coast in numbers, you would list its two accessible train stations, the 2.3 miles of beautifully constructed trail, and 11 -- yes, 11 -- beaches. And, of course, there's more to come for this Spanish village by the sea, as its slogan goes.
The city is currently moving forward with plans to extend the trail in both directions. Heading south, it will expand from Calafia Beach to San Clemente State Beach. Northbound travelers will be able to continue past North Beach to the city of Dana Point.
As Mayor Chris Hamm told the OC Register, “It’s going to change our community forever, for the better. Right on.

Weed Patch to Trestles Beach - San Clemente Singletrack
Another episode of Advanced Beginner ride at Weed Patch - San Clemente Singletrack. Fun ride!
The San Clemente Single Tracks is the common name for the trail network at the inland most portion of the San Onofre State Beach. The place has been around for quite sometime and is still often referred to as The Weed Patch by those who created and maintained the trails. Most of the trails here were in the social status until a few years ago when the state beach managers legalized pretty much all of the existing trails. Legalizing these trails helped to better document the recreational use of this area and assist in stopping a toll road 241 from coming right through where the trails reside. (Click on the banner to the right for more information on what you can do to help) The result, miles of some of the nicest legal coastal grassland singletrack you find in Southern California. What is really cool about this trail network is that it is real singletrack being only 12-16 inches in most places. It is really tough to ride all of the trails here in a single setting as the layout requires you do some doubling back here and there, but 15 plus miles with just a few do-over sections is easily obtainable here.

Rancho San Clemente Ridgeline Trail
While visiting family in San Clemente we did a short hike at Rancho San Clemente Ridgeline Trail. The trail has views of the coastline from Dana Point to San Diego County beaches. It was an easy hike, mostly asphalt trails with some steep grades.
Granddaughter, Kate tried to take Pretty (her dog) up the hill, but Pretty was pretty much pooped out, LOL! Watch the above video.
