Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum In San Jose, California***
Opened in 1966, the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum has one of the largest collections of Egyptian artifacts in western North America.
You really won't find anything else like this anywhere in Northern California (or elsewhere on the coast) and the price is certainly reasonable. Most of the big stuff is replicas, but I'd rather have replicas than nothing at all. The Rosicurcian order is featured, but easily ignored if not interested.

Driving in San Jose 4K - Silicon Valley - California, USA
San Jose (officially the City of San José) is an economic, cultural and political center of Silicon Valley, and the largest city in Northern California (both in population and area). With an estimated 2017 population of 1,035,317, it is the third-most populous city in California (after Los Angeles and San Diego) and the tenth-most populous in United States. Located in the center of the Santa Clara Valley, on the southern shore of San Francisco Bay, San Jose covers an area of 179.97 square miles (466.1 km2).
San Jose is the most populous city in both the San Francisco Bay Area and the San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland Combined Statistical Area, which contain 7.7 million and 8.7 million people respectively.
It is a global city, notable as a center of innovation, for its affluence, Mediterranean climate, and extremely high cost of living. San Jose's location within the booming high tech industry, as a cultural, political, and economic center has earned the city the nickname Capital of Silicon Valley. San Jose is one of the wealthiest major cities in the United States and the world, and has the third highest GDP per capita in the world.

SAN JOSE CA Museum of Art ON VIEW Robert Mapplethorpe Portraits
San Jose Museum of Art - ON VIEW: Robert Mapplethorpe Portraits
American photographer Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) captured the essence of the New York cultural scene in the late 1970s and 1980s through his portraits of artists, writers, musicians, designers, dealers, actors, and actresses. Though known to many for his controversial sexual images, Mapplethorpe's most lasting legacy--and the largest portion of his oeuvre--is his striking portraiture. This exhibition includes some one hundred portraits of such noted figures as William Burroughs, Truman Capote, Marianne Faithfull, David Hockney, Grace Jones, Roy Lichtenstein, Brice Marden, Lisette Model, Alice Neel, Iggy Pop, Ed Ruscha, and Andy Warhol. Organized by the Palm Springs Art Museum, California.
This exhibition has been organized by the Palms Spring Art Museum, Palm Springs, California, with the assistance of Guest Curator Gordon Baldwin. The exhibition is sponsored in part by the Helene & Lou Galen Exhibition Fund and the Faye & Herman Sarkowsky Exhibition Fund.

Absolutely (2012)
Alan Rath, Absolutely, 2012
Pheasant feathers, aluminum, fiberglass, and custom electronics
Gift of the Lipman Family Foundation
Alan Rath employs new technologies as a means to explore the uncertain terrain separating humans from machines. Trained as an electrical engineer, Rath infuses his work with an inquisitiveness about electronics that goes back to his childhood. Through his art, Rath celebrates the symbiotic relationship we have with modern technology.
Absolutely represents a radical shift in Rath's practice from electronic images on screens to robotic sculptures. Long interested in physical mechanical movement, Rath set out to make robotic works that modified, rather than repeated, their own movements. Custom-designed software and motion detectors ensure that the sculpture movies at-will and falls asleep when no one is around. Though the combination of feathers with machinery might suggest a robotic bird, Rath resists the association. He fuses technological apparatuses with organic forms or found materials to make his sculptures seem more alive, contending that, I've been working on [my sculptures] for a long time for the movement to be organic and not be mechanical.
Initial Public Offering: New Works from SJMA's Permanent Collection on view through August 24, 2014.

QUOTE OF THE DAY to help you through this heck of a thing called life:
“Make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.”
