Scott walking in Brussels, Belgium
We spent part of a day in Brussels--it was really something to see Scott get up and go quickly across the square! He had spent a couple of days working up to this...he was pretty sore on this evening, after a day of so much walking around. He found that after 3-1/2 years of not walking/standing so much that his feet and heels aren't quite prepared for working them so hard!

The Town In Two Countries
If you want to visit the town of Baarle, head on over to northern Belgium … or the southern tip of the Netherlands. The town straddles an international border, with half of it belonging to the Dutch and the other half to the Belgians. With dozens of border crossings throughout town, many houses, shops and even roads are split in two. And with two countries comes two sets everything—two mayors, two flags, two council and even two sets of laws. This can make things tricky, but Baarle is setting an example of how two societies can come together and live harmoniously … even in the weirdest of circumstances.

Emotional ceremony following the #Brexit vote at the European Parliament in Brussels
Richard Corbett (S&D, UK): You will go ahead without us building the Democratic European Union where all decisions have to be approved by an elected parliament as well as the elected ministers in the Council of ministers, that double double Democratic safeguard that is very important, it is what distinguishes the European Union from the WTO, the World Bank, the IMF, all those other bureaucratic organisations here living democracy is part of the structure let us cherish that let us make it work better and let us watch you take this further in our absence while we are on sabbatical.
Caroline Voaden (RE, UK): Brexit is the result of an ideological divide in our oldest political party. A party that should have and would have split up decades ago if it wasn’t for a voting system that is undemocratic and unfit for purpose. The only silverlining in this very dark cloud is that the division caused by Brexit has to be the catalyst for something even bigger, a wholesale reform of our democracy in the UK.
#eudebates #Brexit #EuropeanParliament #UnitedKingdom #VoteBrexit #BREXITDeal #NoDeal
Molly Scott Cato (Greens/EFA, UK): I particularly look to the young people because I believe they’re going to bring us back and I look forward to the day when I’m gonna be sitting here or standing, let’s hope it is not that long, and we’re all going to be celebrating our return to our rightful place at the heart of Europe.
Diane Dodds (NI, UK): When the United Kingdom will leave the institutions of the European Union it is a new journey, a new pathway. We wish our European friends well, we hope that as we develop a new relationship as we get to that new free trade deal that we will be able to work together and have a prosperous relationship both on trade and security and in many other issues as we move forward.
Richard Corbett (S&D, UK), Caroline Voaden (RE, UK), Molly Scott Cato (Greens/EFA, UK) and Diane Dodds (NI, UK) speak at the ceremony following the vote on the withdrawal Agreement of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community, during the plenary session (29-30 January 20220) of the European Parliament in Brussels.

Ibis Brussels Centre - Gare du Midi (Brussels, Belgium) - Double-Single Room
This video looks at my stay at a Double-Single Room at the Ibis Brussels Centre - Gare du Midi.
The hotel is conveniently located right opposite the Gare du Midi train station and within close proximity to the financial/government sections of the city.
The lobby features a sitting area, foosball table and a computer work station. There's also a hotel restaurant that serves meals throughout the day. After I check in at reception, I head to my double-single room. I review the room - beds, size, ambiance, amenities, bathroom, etc. Of note, if baggage are to be stored at the hotel, you will need to rent a locker in the hotel's basement rather than leaving it with reception.

European Parliament pass withdrawal deal in Brussels
The EU ratifies the Brexit withdrawal agreement paving the way for UK's departure from the bloc on Friday. Freddy Tennyson reports.
Voting overwhelmingly in its favour - European Lawmakers signed off on Wednesday - a deal 3 and a half years in the making.
The deal sees the UK saying Au Revoir to the bloc it's been a part of since 1973.
At midnight on Friday (January 31) Brussels time, Britain will be out.
It was the last vote for the UK's 73 MEPs. Afterwards the chamber broke into singing Auld Lang Syne, a traditional Scottish song to bid farewell.
The session saw MEP's both slam and celebrate the bloc in what was at times highly emotional.
UK Greens MEP Molly Scott Cato -
BRITISH MEP MOLLY SCOTT CATO SAYING:
Now is not the time to campaign to rejoin, but we must keep the dream alive. Especially, for young people who are overwhelmingly pro-European. I hold in my heart that I will one day be back in this chamber celebrating our return to the heart of Europe. Thank you
But it wasn't all words of friendship - UK MEP and architect of the vote leave campaign, Nigel Farage.
BRITISH MEP NIGEL FARAGE SAYING:
''There's a historic battle going on now across the West, in Europe, America and elsewhere. It's globalism against populism and you may loathe populism but I tell you one thing it's becoming very popular. It has great benefits. No more financial contributions, no more European Court of Justice, no more common fisheries policies, no more being bullied
But if MEP's were hoping this goodbye was an end to the years of wrangling of what the future UK/EU relationship will look like - they would be sorely mistaken.
With a transition period running until year-end - for now there won't be any changes but fresh talks - covering everything from trade to security.
So for the moment- everything stays the same - Just without the Union Jacks hanging in Strasbourg and Brussels.
Belgium: Over 30,000 students ditch class for climate protest in Brussels

Over 30,000 students took the streets of Brussels for the third consecutive week on Thursday to demand action for climate change.
Under slogans such as Make Belgium great again,” We want climate justice, and Cool kids against global warming,” the mass of students gathered into a massive protest, dwarfing the protest of the previous week, which was reportedly attended by around 12,000 people.

Heartbroken British MEP in tears during final Brexit speech in Brussels: I will be back!
Molly Scott Cato, the Green party MEP, starts her speech by saying that she feels she is about to cry. Now is not the time to campaign to return to rejoin the EU, she says. But she says it is important to keep the hope alive. She ends:
I hold in my heart the knowledge that one day I will be back in this chamber, celebrating our return to Europe.
As she finishes she gets emotional and tearful. She gets a loud and long standing ovation.
