Whale Watching - Moss Landing, California
Whale watching is one of the things we like to do after moving to California. You can do whale watching all year around right off the California coast, the perfect location is Monterey Bay because it's a marine sanctuary, the fish are abundant. First time we went with Sea Goddess from Pacific Grove wharf, but it was long ways away. It took one hour each way from shore to the submarine canyon where whales hangout to feed. Second time we went with Sanctuary Cruises in Moss Landing, which is much closer to the whales, within 30 minutes boat ride we already saw whales! The whale watching operators in Pacific Grove have bigger boats, can accommodate more people, also more stable sailing on the sea. Sanctuary Cruises has smaller boat, but we like them the most because less people on the boat and you can get closer look of whales. That's why we were with them twice already! You need to take precaution for the boat ride, if you easily get sea sick. We have seen humpback whales, blue whales, dolphins, Mola Mola; we haven't seen orcas yet. We will keep going until we see them!
Camera we use for taking videos: Olympus Tracker GT.
Camera we use for taking photos: Canon 1000D.
Smart phones we use as back up: iPhone 6 Plus.
Music: Crusier - Silent Partner - YouTube Audio Library.

Imagine being up close and personal with some of the largest, most graceful and rare mammals in the world as they migrate and surface from the deep sea through the abundant feeding grounds of Monterey Bay – the Whale Watching Capital of the World.
With over 25 years experience on Monterey Bay and a fully narrated cruise with our on board Marine Biologist, you will learn about these magnificent Dinosaurs of our time on the most pristine and spacious vessel in the harbor, the Sea Goddess, Coast Guard certified for up to 93 passengers.
Our passengers get excited about seeing whales up close and personal interacting and rubbing their barnacles off against the boat, which they do voluntarily on occasion, watching the largest mammal on earth - the Blue Whale, seeing predation events whether it is orcas on the hunt for its prey, or humpbacks lunge feeding at the surface.
Departing from Moss Landing, the Sea Goddess is situated in the center of Monterey Bay between Santa Cruz and Monterey at the mouth of the Monterey Bay Submarine Canyon where the whales play, live, and feed on the abundant anchovies, squid and sardines in this rich nutrient sea canyon - This means more time watching the whales and less time chasing them down! Moss Landing Whale Watching
Our late afternoon trips have been amazing. Here we came across some rampant lunge-feeding humpback whales.
Whale Watching at the Mouth of the Moss Landing Harbor
The opportunities to get close to the whales have been plentiful this year. Some bold greys have even ventured into the harbor. Thank the bloom of anchovies in the Monterey Bay. When the food is this readily available, the whales, seals, gulls and other wildlife will abound too. This video was shot by a friend from a boat just outside the harbor mouth.
