Hiking inside the San Andreas Fault
In California, when you think of tourist attractions, the San Andreas Fault is certainly not one of them. But there's an unknown area where you can actually hike inside the fault zone. David Begnaud reports.

Hello everyone, these are my five favorite 4x4 / off-road easy to intermediate off-road trails including some of my favorite overland trails in the deserts of Southern California near Palm Springs, and near Salton Sea. Most of these trails are suitable for beginners to experts due to the optional harder routes.
The trails consist of Offroad Overlanding, Dirt Road, Rock Crawling, Mud Bog, Hill Climbs, Rocky Sections, and High Speed Areas.
Camping – All locations allow dispersed camping. Some areas are better than others like Arroyo Tapiado, Arroyo Seco Del Diablo, Fish Creek, and Pinyon Mountain.
Off-Road – All of the trail are perfect for a day trip. But making a weekend of it is way better

Star Trails Build Up Behind Palm Trees at Corn Springs, California
The last in my Corn Springs series until my next visit to this location.
I used StarStaX to create these star trails from 375 frames each shot with a Canon 6D and Mitakon 35mm f/2 lens at f/2.8 8 sec ISO 3200. I chose the option to save an image file progressively as the star trails were built. This is the result. Background music as a small sample of a dark version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by The Chocolate Chips.
Corn Springs is a palm oasis situated in the Chuckwalla Mountains of the Colorado Desert in Riverside County, California, United States, seventeen miles southeast of Desert Center. Native Americans relied on the springs, and they engraved many petroglyphs on the rocks in the area. In the late 19th century, miners in the area also relied on the springs, and they established the Corn Springs Mining District in 1897.
The springs were used for thousands of years by nomadic Native Americans. The Chemehuevi, Desert Cahuilla and Yuma bands frequented the spring and carved elaborate petroglyphs in the nearby rocks. Some of the oldest rock art is over 10,000 years old. At times, there was enough surface water for gardening by the springs. The Indians also utilized the fruit of the palms.
Early white visitors found feral corn plants in the vicinity, giving the spring its present name.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway: Desert to Mountains in 10 Minutes
Looking for a fun weekend getaway this holiday season? I’m always a fan of #Palmsprings... any time of year! ???? So, I finally got to experience the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway... and I LOVED it! Did you know it’s the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world? Pretty impressive. There’s a hike at the top, Mt San Jacinto State Park, which is pretty incredible too. Be sure to bring a jacket because the temperature at the Mountain Station is usually 30-40 degrees cooler than on the desert floor. Brrrrr!!! ❄️ Anyway, enough typing.. Take a peek at the video to see a bit more of the experience! •

434-San Jacinto Mtn, Gold Mine In The Sky....Somewhere!
In April, 1769, the San Antonio sailed into the splendid harbor of San Diego. The ship had been sent out from Mexico and had a few friars on board, a detachment of soldiers and a handful of colonists. Father Junipero Serra, was on board who founded Missions from San Diego to Monterey.
The domination of the Missions, of which there were twenty-one, lasted till 1822, when Mexico declared her independence from Spain. But during all this time almost nothing was known about the matchless and beautiful mountain country of California that we now hold so dear, until the discovery of gold.
Once hearing of the great strike, by sea and land they flocked in untold numbers to the new El Dorado, a legendary place in South America where the streets were said to be paved with gold, and wealth and riches were to be had in abundance.
They came from all parts of the civilized world to California to seek for gold. The way was difficult and the majority knew little of gold mining when they arrived. Most of the people who rushed off to California in 1849 and later, went to get a start in the world.
Money was difficult to obtain in the East. Everybody wanted to make a big strike and get rich all at once. What actually happened was that a great many steady and honest men became comfortably well off from the gold they dug. Millionaires, however, were scarce. Others who came in '49 stayed on for decades and lived just as poor as they were on the day they arrived.
Beginning in 1848, brave men from all over the world came to seek their fortune in California. The good, the bad, the rich strikes and the failures of men who tamed the west by the work of their hands.
The history of California, may be told in a few words. The event which changed the history of California was the discovery of gold by James Marshall, in January of 1848, that find opened California to forge a new era for the western US..............................
