We Go Island Canoes Illegally Using City and County Property
Open letter:
Aloha Mayor Caldwell, DLNR DOBAR Administrator Ed Underwood, Congresswoman Cynthia Thielen, and Councilmen Ikaika Anderson
I wanted to inform you all of some illegal activity happening in Kailua Beach Park that we (as a community) have fought tiresly to end to no avail. A member of the City and County of Honolulu has been using his status as an Ocean Safety Officer to elude any prosecution for operating illegally and continues to do so.
On the 7th of June 2017 I witnessed a permitted commercial tour company, “We Go Island Canoe” Owned and operated by City and County of Honolulu lifeguard Simeon Ke-Paloma, using Kailua Beach Park property to conduct commercial activity. His launching, set up, as well as his parking of canoe trailer and truck on City and County property is a direct violation of ordinance 12-2 in Bill 5.
According to ordinance 12-2 in Bill 5 (2011) commercial activity is defined as “…any activity performed by the commercial operator or its employees or agents in connection with the delivery of such commodities or services.”(Section 2 page 1). It later goes on to mention, “Commercial activities, including recreational stops by tour companies, shall not be allowed at any time at city owned or operated beach right-of-way and easements from Lanikai to Kapoho Point (Castle Point)” (Section 3 i page 5)
In order for “We Go Island Canoes” to access state owned property (Ka’elepulu Stream) to egress and ingress Kailua Bay, he must traverse city and county property. Multiple times residents have witnessed and reached out to HPD and DLNR officials as well as the Neighborhood board to have this Illegal activity stopped, without any success.
At the February neighborhood board, Ed Underwood director of DLNR DOBAR division stated in order for the illegal activity to get shut down, residents must submit video evidence. In the following videos you will see clearly marked canoes returning from tours with guests in Kailua beach park. The Canoes are labeled with their permitted commercial activity sticker, website address (We Go Island Canoes), and landing sticker from DOFAW. The canoes head up stream on Ka’elepulu Stream to return to the trailer and truck parked next to Windward Kai Canoe Club on Kailua Beach Park and city and county property. The video then shows the employee landing, breaking down and putting away of canoes and equipment, loading up the trailer and leaving the beach park.
Other items I would like to note from the video:
The trailer is neither registered or safety checked as you can clearly see from the video.
A dog was brought on the tour, as you can see as the guests exit the canoe. All the Islands in Kailua bay are bird sanctuaries and DO NOT allow animals of any kind other then native wildlife to the island. Pets are not allowed.
HA numbers are not present on the canoe as they are required of all commercial activities, Outrigger Canoe or not.
The truck and trailer were left on the Beach Park property for the duration of the time of the tour, which is an activity associated with them providing the illegal commercial activity.
In no way am I calling for an end to commercial activity but rather for enforcement of businesses operating illegally.
I would also like to note that I wish to remain anonymous.
Thank you,
Kahi Aquino
Paddling up the Anahulu (Haleiwa) River from Tsue's Farm (North Shore, Oahu) LookIntoHawaii.com
Fun paddle up the Anahulu River launching from Tsue's Farm in Haleiwa. We took the kayak upstream watched the turtles travel with us. Then we paddled under the iconic Rainbow Bridge.
Finally after our trip, we ate delicious shrim, chicken, and kalua pig plate lunches at Tsue's Farm. A perfect day.

Moana & Maui: of Disney's Moana perform at Outrigger Canoes
The Stars of the popular Disney movie: Moana: Moana & Maui- performed live at Outrigger Canoes today in King Harbor, Redondo Beach, California, with the stars of the popular Disney movie arriving from the ocean by Outrigger Canoes and docked at the bay to perform and talk to the crowd that happened to be there for this big surprise visit ! Moana herself gave a great singing performance, and taught all the children that were lucky enough to be present on this special Labor Day - how to dance the Hula and learn about The Hawaiian culture, and joined everyone for some good Hawaiian and Polynesian food !
Moana (/moʊˈɑːnə, -ænə/) is a 2016 American 3D computer-animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 56th Disney animated feature film. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, co-directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, the film introduces Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana and features the voices of Dwayne Johnson, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger, and Alan Tudyk. The film features songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Opetaia Foa'i and orchestral score composed by Mark Mancina.
Moana was released theatrically in the United States on November 23, 2016 to positive reviews from critics, with particular praise going towards its animation, music, and vocal performances. The film went on to gross over $643 million worldwide. Along with Zootopia, it marked the first time since 2002 that Walt Disney Animation Studios released two feature films in the same year. It received two Academy Award nominations at the 89th Academy Awards: one for Best Animated Feature and another for Best Original Song (How Far I'll Go) !
Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped - and no one knows exactly why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Moana, a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli'i Cravalho) meets the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she's always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Princess & the Frog), produced by Osnat Shurer (Lifted, One Man Band), and featuring music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa'i.

Kayaking Trip To Mokulua Islands & Popoia Island
*Note* This video was made with different music. Same exact video as my original.
Kayaking Trip to the Mokulua (Twin) Islands & Popoia (Flat) Island. We launched our Kayak from Lanikai Beach and enjoyed paddling over the clear blue sea. We had a great time and loved the scenery. Queen's Bath was pretty dirty when we went, otherwise we would've jumped right in to cool off. We also saw an eel looking fish, not really sure if it was an eel or not. If anyone knows leave a comment.
Hope you enjoy the video and I'd recommend this trip to anyone, whether your traveling to Oahu, live here, or in a tourist group. Fun, Fun, Fun!!!

Oahu-Things to do: Kailua Beach, Polynesian Culture Center, Temple and Tacos
Made a few stops on our way to the Polynesian Culture Center. Kailua Beach was about a 25-35 minute drive from Waikiki. The drive to get there was half the fun, on the way you get to tour the mountains, go through tunnels, and take advantage of a great scenic way point at the Pali lookout.
I highly recommend purchasing the Ambassador package at the Polynesian Cultural Center. That way you see all the countries/shows and participate in all the hands on activities they offer. We didn't get to do everything before they closed (12pm-5:30pm hours)

Me and a few of my good friends from Oahu decided in one day that we wanted to go visit the Big Island. One day is all it took to plan this trip and it was probably one of the most beautiful trips of my life. We drove on pretty much every highway on this island and viewed at least 600 miles in 2 days. Heres a video of what happened...Enjoy????
