North Conway is a census-designated place (CDP) in eastern Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,349 at the 2010 census. A year-round resort area, North Conway is the largest village within the town of Conway, which is bounded on the east by the Maine state line. The White Mountain National Forest is to the west and north. Conway is home to Cathedral Ledge (popular with climbers), Echo Lake State Park, and Mount Cranmore. North Conway is known for its large number of outlet shops.
Chartered in 1765 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth, the town is named for Henry Seymour Conway, ambitious son of a prominent English family, who was elected to the House of Commons at age twenty, fought at Culloden, and became Secretary of State. Early settlers called the area Pequawket (known colloquially as Pigwacket), adopting the name of the Abenaki Indian village which stretched down the Saco River to its stockaded center at Fryeburg, Maine.
North Conway is located in the White Mountains, with Mount Washington located to the northwest. The rugged terrain became popular in the 19th century with artists. Their paintings were known collectively as White Mountain art, which in turn attracted tourists to the area, particularly after the Portsmouth, Great Falls & Conway Railroad extended service in 1872 to North Conway. In 1874, the line built a Second Empire depot, designed by Nathaniel J. Bradlee. In 1932, snow trains began carrying enthusiasts to the birthplace of American skiing, as North Conway is known.
Increasing automobile travel brought the decline of trains. The railroad, then part of the Boston & Maine, abandoned passenger service to the area in 1961, and freight service in 1972. Subsequently, the Conway Scenic Railroad was established. Today, the line offers visitors a tour of the region, including Crawford Notch. The station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In the late 1980s, the White Mountain Airport closed and was redeveloped as a large outlet mall called Settlers' Green Outlet Village. Continued growth through the 1990s and 2000s in North Conway and the villages nearby made Conway the most populous community in Carroll County. Traffic congestion led to an overhaul of the road system, including widening Route 16 through North Conway village and constructing a road parallel to Route 16 to allow traffic to move between Redstone and Intervale uninterrupted. A bypass of the area is being developed.
North Conway remains a popular destination due to its shopping, recreation, and attractions.

The White Mountains are a mountain range covering about a quarter of the state of New Hampshire and a small portion of western Maine in the United States. They are part of the northern Appalachian Mountains and the most rugged mountains in New England. The range is heavily visited due to its proximity to Boston and, to a lesser extent, New York City and Montreal.
Most of the area is public land, including the White Mountain National Forest and a number of state parks. Its most famous mountain is 6,288-foot (1,917 m) Mount Washington, which is the highest peak in the Northeastern U.S. and which held the record for fastest surface wind gust (231 miles per hour (372 km/h), over 100 m/s, in 1934) in the world for 76 years. Mount Washington is part of a line of summits, the Presidential Range, that are named after U.S. presidents and other prominent Americans.
The White Mountains also include the Franconia Range, Sandwich Range, Carter-Moriah Range and Kinsman Range in New Hampshire, and the Mahoosuc Range straddling the border between it and Maine. In all, there are 48 peaks within New Hampshire as well as one (Old Speck Mountain) in Maine over 4,000 feet (1,200 m), known as the Four-thousand footers.
The Whites are known for a system of alpine huts for hikers operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. The Appalachian Trail crosses the area from southwest to northeast.
It is not clear where the name White Mountains came from. There is no record of what Native Americans called the range, although pre-Colonial names for many individual peaks are known.[1] The name and similar ones such as White Hills or Wine Hills are found in literature from Colonial times. According to tradition, the mountains were first sighted from shipboard off the coast near the Piscataqua estuary. The highest peaks would often be snow-capped, appearing white.

Video of 16 Pear Forest Road | Bartlett, New Hampshire real estate & homes by Randy Hilman
- Imagine a tranquil oasis set on a hillside of fabled Mount Washington Valley; a place above the fray reserved for the lucky few to relish the world as it should be savored: calm, ordered, colorful. Once in a rare while, there comes to market a special property such as this. World class Gilmore House, 16 Pear Forest Rd, Bartlett, NH, is just such a place. Our bespoke Adirondack-style home is not so much a finely crafted custom house as it is a private, end-of-the-road refuge from the ordinary. Take a chair on the elevated deck or lounge inside before the broad canted bay with windows overlooking the manicured grounds below and foliated mountains beyond. It is an unending visual feast. Save for the seasons, views of Kearsarge and Cranmore will not change. Men and women have lifted eyes to these peaks for generations. Gilmore House takes full advantage of their undeveloped majesty, aided by its lofty perch on five exquisitely landscaped acres of Pear Mountain. At 6,500 s.f. of finished living area, Gilmore House offers exceptional accommodation on three floors comprising a great hall, professional grade kitchen, sitting and game rooms and four en-suite bedrooms. Clad in red cedar-shingles the structure encloses an airy open floor plan dominated by a floor-to-ceiling, twin-sided fieldstone fireplace and wide, open-well staircase leading to floors above and below. The appointments are expertly handcrafted and polished to exacting specification from carefully selected granites, marbles, tiles, red birch, Australian cedar and clear quarter-sawn oak. Bordered stone floor inlays define the principal seating areas. Under-floor heating warms throughout. A top-of-the-range audio system, televisions, built-in fireplaces complement the breathtaking accoutrements. At the social heart of the property is a spectacular kitchen that makes for a splendid living/dining experience. Aside from its connection to the open living format, the cook's nook is appointed with a comprehensive range of high-end units, including Grohe fixtures, Sub Zero, Wolfe and Bosch appliances along with lavish Typhoon Bordeaux granite counters and regionally crafted red birch cabinetry. A fully bespoke central Island houses a Wolfe cooler and Grohe vegetable sink while two additional Wolfe coolers are tucked beneath the bar counter. Underneath the six-burner/ griddle Wolfe cook top unit is a pullout warming oven that keeps large meals at the ready while sauces are prepared. A sleek master suite with gas fire unit and wonderful views of grounds and mountains has been added to the first floor. The en-suite is sumptuously appointed, comprising a walk-in closet; soothing, jetted, micro-bubble bath; large walk-in shower cubicle and twin wash basins, all dressed in exotic marble and Indian Rain Forest granite. Three additional bedrooms above and below are beautifully appointed with luxurious en-suites, one of which features a steam shower. On the grounds below the main house, there is a top-of-the-range salt water pool and hexagonal cabana with a built-in television and gas fire unit. A service kitchen is set off to one side, attached to the large independent building that houses an office/gym and four-bay garage below. In total, the property provides covered parking for seven vehicles, making it ideal for the collector of fine automobiles. Viewing is strictly by prior appointment. Pear Forest Road is a private entry to four homes.

Winter Storm Stella rated Category 3 , or major, on the Northeast Snowfall Impact Scale (NESIS) released by NOAA.
The storm was a blockbuster that brought 3 to almost 5 feet of snow to parts of New York state, Pennsylvania and Vermont, along with wind gusts over hurricane force to coastal New England.
The NESIS ranks high-impact Northeast winter storms by using population and snowfall amounts. NESIS also looks at the size of the snowfield, which for Stella covered most of the Northeast. The scale ranges from 1-5 using a formula that incorporates these ingredients, and Stella fell well into the Category 3 criteria.
Other storms that have received a Category 3 rating are winter storms Kari (2015), Pax (2014) and Maximus (2014).
This is the sixth storm to be rated Category 3 or higher since 2012, one of which, Winter Storm Jonas, was a Category 4.
The Bolton Valley Ski Area, located in the Green Mountains of northern Vermont east of Burlington, reported a storm total of 58 inches of snow early on the morning of March 16.
Stella was the second-heaviest snowstorm in 117 years of records in Burlington, Vermont, and a record for the month of March, with 30.4 inches of snow. Only the Jan. 2-3, 2010 snowstorm (33.1 inches) was heavier, there.
At Bradley International Airport near Windsor Locks, Connecticut, Stella's 15.8 inches of snow on March 14 was the snowiest calendar day in any spring month (March through May) in records dating to 1905.
It was also the third-heaviest March snowstorm in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, topped only by the 1993 Superstorm (20.4 inches) and a late March 1891 storm (18 inches).
Widespread 1- to 3-foot snow accumulations have piled up in parts of the Northeast, led by 48.4 inches in Hartwick, New York. At least one location in 16 states has seen a foot of snow from Stella in the Midwest and Northeast.

✩OUR STORY: Backroads of Montana. Watch Video here:
I'm originally from Fier, Albania. I grew up in Roskovec until I finished the 8th grade and then immigrated to Italy on my own to look for work opportunities. I ended up being taken in by a school for boys without families, Fondazione il Faro, in Rome. There, they tried to integrate us into the community by teaching us the Italian language as well as giving us technical skills like making pizza, cutting hair, carpentry and computer programming. After a year at the school, I found my first job as a waiter in a vegetarian restaurant. The work was challenging and I loved it. I waited tables for the next six years, working at renowned Roman restaurants learning a great deal about Italian food and wine in the process.
In 2004, I met my wife, Kaleigh, a Montana native, who was a student traveling and studying in Rome...

The White Mountains are a mountain range covering about a quarter of the state of New Hampshire and a small portion of western Maine in the United States. Part of the Appalachian Mountains, they are considered the most rugged mountains in New England. The range is heavily visited due to its proximity to Boston and (to a lesser extent) New York City.
Most of the area is public land, including the White Mountain National Forest as well as a number of state parks. Its most famous peak is Mount Washington, which at 6,288 feet (1,917 m) is the highest mountain in the Northeastern U.S. and home to the fastest surface wind gust (231 miles per hour (372 km/h), over 100 m/s, in 1934) measured in the Northern Hemisphere. Mount Washington is one of a line of summits called the Presidential Range, many of which are named after U.S. presidents and other prominent Americans.
In addition, the White Mountains include several smaller groups including the Franconia Range, Sandwich Range, Carter-Moriah Range, Kinsman Range and Pilot Range. In all, there are forty-eight peaks over 4,000', known as a group as the Four-thousand footers.
The Whites are known for their system of alpine huts for hikers, operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. The Appalachian Trail crosses the area from southwest to northeast.
Origin of name
There has been much discussion of the origin of the name White Mountains. This name and similar ones such as White Hills or Wine Hills are found in literature from colonial times. According to tradition, the mountains were first sighted from shipboard off the coast near the Piscataqua estuary. The highest peaks would often be snow-capped. An alternate theory is that the mica-laden granite of the summits looked white to observers.
Map of the main regions of the northeast Appalachians.
The White Mountains are a physiographic section of the larger New England province, which in turn is part of the larger Appalachian physiographic division.
The magma intrusions forming the White Mountains today were created 124 to 100 million years ago as the North American Plate moved westward over the New England hotspot.
Widespread evidence of glaciation may be seen in the U-shaped form of various notches, or mountain passes. Glacial cirques form the heads of Tuckerman Ravine on Mt. Washington and King Ravine on Mt. Adams. Glacial striations are visible at numerous locations, including on the exposed rocks at the summit of Pine Mountain in Gorham.
