Ogmore Castle, South Wales - A Look Around The Castle Ruins
A look at the substantial ruins of Ogmore Castle in South Wales. It sits next to the River Ewenny near the Ogmore by Sea and not that far from the town of Bridgend.
And in this video I’ve actually done some research and there are some facts!
Ogmore castle was first established in the early 12th century by William de Londres. The initial wooden structure was soon replaced with a stone castle. An upper story was added in the 13th century.
The castle is surrounded by a deep rock cut ditch which only fills with water when the nearby River Ewenny floods. The stepping stones across the river which are a scheduled ancient monument.
Within the bailey of the castle is a courthouse building which was in use until the 17th century.
The castle is officially open from 10 am to 4pm and is free to get in, it is unmanned so you can actually access the grounds at anytime.
There is a small carpark by the river but they do lock the gate in the evening, also check the tide times as this car park does flood during high tides.
Ogmore Castle near Bridgend is is just one of the 600 castles that are in Wales. Yes, there are a LOT of castles. #Wales

This video is raw footage of my visit to Conwy Castle. Unedited...so this is not an exciting video, but it will take you up all accessible towers and show you what to expect at Conwy Castle.
Conwy Castle (Welsh: Castell Conwy, English: Conway Castle) is a medieval fortification in Conwy, on the north coast of Wales. It was built by Edward I, during his conquest of Wales, between 1283 and 1289. Constructed as part of a wider project to create the walled town of Conwy, the combined defences cost around £15,000, a huge sum for the period. Over the next few centuries, the castle played an important part in several wars. It withstood the siege of Madog ap Llywelyn in the winter of 1294–95, acted as a temporary haven for Richard II in 1399 and was held for several months by forces loyal to Owain Glyndŵr in 1401.
Following the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642, the castle was held by forces loyal to Charles I, holding out until 1646 when it surrendered to the Parliamentary armies. In the aftermath the castle was partially slighted by Parliament to prevent it being used in any further revolt, and was finally completely ruined in 1665 when its remaining iron and lead was stripped and sold off. Conwy Castle became an attractive destination for painters in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Visitor numbers grew and initial restoration work was carried out in the second half of the 19th century. In the 21st century the ruined castle is managed by Cadw as a tourist attraction.
UNESCO considers Conwy to be one of the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe, and it is classed as a World Heritage site.[1] The rectangular castle is built from local and imported stone and occupies a coastal ridge, originally overlooking an important crossing point over the River Conwy. Divided into an Inner and an Outer Ward, it is defended by eight large towers and two barbicans, with a postern gate leading down to the river, allowing the castle to be resupplied from the sea. It retains the earliest surviving stone machicolations in Britain and what historian Jeremy Ashbee has described as the best preserved suite of medieval private royal chambers in England and Wales.[2] In keeping with other Edwardian castles in North Wales, the architecture of Conwy has close links to that found in the kingdom of Savoy during the same period, an influence probably derived from the Savoy origins of the main architect, James of Saint George.

Ogmore Vale with Swansea Ramblers
Swansea Ramblers visited the Ogmore Valley, north of Bridgend. There are some stunning views of the hillside and also south across the Bristol Channel to Somerset. We had sunny weather to start then it clouded over a little. This was a walk for most abilities with a bit of a gentle climb to reach the top of the hillside. At the end of the video we walk past the site of the Gwalia Stores that was moved to St Fagans' museum.
Swansea Ramblers enjoy short and long walks every week to explore the countryside while socialising and making new friends.
We have social events such as meals in local restaurants and weekends away, such as to the Cotswolds and Chester.

W lesie tym odwiedzimy dwa największe i kilka mniejszych, a na końcu pokażemy Wam najwyższy wodospad w południowej Walii.
Las czterech wodospadów czyli tak zwany waterfall trail to niezwykle malowniczy, bardzo dobrze oznakowany leśny szlak ciągnący się przez około 9 km wzdłuż rzeki Afon Mellte mamy tutaj dwa punkty startowe rozpoczynające się na parkingach nieopodal lasu czterech wodospadów.
Pierwszy, to Cwm Porth, obok którego znajdziecie także jaskinie oraz drugi, dłuższy, który zaczyna się niecałe 2 km dalej -na parkingu Gwaun Hepste i to właśnie z niego dziś wyruszamy
Aby dostać się do kolejnego wodospadu, który chcielibyśmy Wam pokazać, musimy zmienić lokalizację.
Wodospad Henrhyd to najwyższy wodospad w południowej Walii. Jego wysokość sięga 27 metrów.
W porównaniu do poprzednich, znajduje się on znacznie bliżej parkingu i krócej się do niego idzie jakieś 500 metrów w dół.
U stóp tego wodospadu, słynny geolog William Edmund Logan odkrył skamieniałe drzewa, które dzisiaj można znaleźć w muzeum Swansea w Walii
Nakręcono tutaj także końcową scenę filmu Mroczny rycerz powstaje
