Big Pit National Coal Museum is an industrial heritage museum in Blaenavon, Torfaen, South Wales. A working coal mine from 1880 to 1980, it was opened to the public in 1983 under the auspices of the National Museum of Wales. The site is dedicated to operational preservation of the Welsh heritage of coal mining, which took place during the Industrial revolution. Located adjacent to the preserved Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway, Big Pit is part of the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape, a World Heritage Site, and an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

Places to see in ( Swansea - UK ) Gower Peninsula

Gower or the Gower Peninsula is a peninsula in the south of Wales, projecting westwards into the Bristol Channel. Gower Peninsula is the most westerly part of the county of Glamorgan, however it is currently administered as part of the unitary authority of Swansea. In 1956, Gower became the first area in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

About 70 square miles (180 km2) in area, Gower is known for its coastline, popular with walkers and outdoor enthusiasts, especially surfers. Gower has many caves, including Paviland Cave and Minchin Hole Cave. The peninsula is bounded by the Loughor Estuary to the north and Swansea Bay to the east. Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty covers 188 km², including most of the peninsula west of Crofty, Three Crosses, Upper Killay, Blackpill and Bishopston. The highest point of Gower is The Beacon at Rhossili Down at 193 metres (633 ft) overlooking Rhossili Bay. Pwll Du and the Bishopton Valley form a statutory Local Nature Reserve.

The interior of Gower consists mainly of farmland and common land. The population resides mainly in villages and small communities, though suburban development has made a number of communities in eastern Gower part of the Swansea Urban Area. The southern coast consists of a series of small, rocky or sandy bays, such as Langland and Three Cliffs, and larger beaches such as Port Eynon, Rhossili and Oxwich Bay. The north of the peninsula has fewer beaches, and is home to the cockle-beds of Penclawdd.

Road Tripping the coast of Wales

After playing a touchtennis event in Cirencester (where I made the semi-finals!), Craig and I set off to embark on a road trip around Wales.

This was our itinerary:
Day 1 - Started off at Conwy Castle, then just drove about a bit hitting up Nant Gwrtheyrn, Porth Oer and as far west as we could get near Uwchmynydd for sunset.
Day 2 - Took the train up Mount Snowdon, then pottered about in Snowdonia for a bit, before heading to Portmeirion, ending the day at Caernarfon Castle.
Day 3 - Driving day. Heading south from our hotel in Caernarfon, hitting up Harlech Castle, Mwnt and Stackpole Quay.
Day 4 - Back to the Stackpole Quay car park to walk up to Barafundle Bay and beyond. Then off to St Davids to visit Bishop's Palace and St Davids Cathedral.
Day 5 - Quick trip to Carreg Cennen Castle, before hitting the Gower. Rhossili Bay, Worms Head, Bishopston Valley, Langland Bay and Caswell Bay all ticked off. Then headed to Caerphilly Mountain as it was near our accommodation.
Day 6 - Flying visit to Caerphilly Castle before hitting the M4 and the joys of the long road home.

We had a great time, and would definitely like to go back to do some of the awesome activities we saw in the areas (zip lining, kayaking etc).
