Tourist Spot Attractions In West Coast Region

  • 1. Brunner Mine Site Walk Greymouth
The Brunner Mine was a coal mine on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand. The Brunner Mine was one of several mines situated on the banks of the Grey River, at an area known as Coal Gorge between the townships of Stillwater and Taylorville. The town of Brunner is nearby. Coal was discovered on the West Coast by Nelson surveyor Thomas Brunner during the most arduous of his journeys in search of more agricultural land. The coal was of extremely high quality and it did not take long before it attracted interest. And, of course, The West Coast had the added attraction of gold mining and it seems that the employment opportunity offered by coal mining was in the difficult economic times not one to be turned down.

Knight's Point is on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. The 1950s were a time of infrastructure development in New Zealand. A related project was the building by the Ministry of Works of a road from the South Island's east coast, across Haast Pass and up the west coast to join the road that terminated at Ross. A second crew began construction south of Ross and progressed south. The two teams met north of Haast, on the coast. As the time for the official opening of the road drew near, officials from the Ministry of Works journeyed to the meeting point to make arrangements for a commemorative monument by the roadsid...

State Highway 6 is a major New Zealand state highway. It extends from the northeastern corner of the South Island across the top of the island, then down the length of the island, initially along the West Coast and then across the Southern Alps through inland Otago and finally across the Southland Plains to the island's south coast.
