Train Travel: ROTTERDAM ~ Vangelis&Vanessa-Mae / Alexander
On September 18, 2009, I travelled from Eindhoven to Rotterdam. And back.
A bright shiny sunny day, warm, so.... travel with me!
A pity that the windows of the train were a bit dirty.
Part 1: Eindhoven ~ Rotterdam (Breda / Hollands Diep / Dordrecht)
Part 2: Eindhoven ~ Rotterdam (Dordrecht / Willemspoortunnel / Central Station)
Part 3: Rotterdam, her destruction and resurrection
Part 4: Rotterdam ~ Eindhoven (Central Station / Willemspoortunnel / Hollands Diep)
Part 5: Rotterdam ~ Eindhoven (The Chase between two intercities)
Part 6: Rotterdam ~ Eindhoven (Arriving in Central Station Eindhoven)
This video, part 1/6, starts in Tilburg, and we are passing also central station Dordrecht.
Before we arrive in Dordrecht we are crossing the Hollands Diep....
Very beautiful to watch, to experience it, by crossing it by train, in high speed, 140 km per hour, to enjoy the vastness of this Dutch Pearl of Water Beauty!
More about Hollands Diep:
Hollands Diep is a wide river in Netherlands and an estuary of the Rhine and Meuse river. Through the Scheldt-Rhine Canal it connects to the Scheldt river and Antwerp.
The Bergse Maas river and the Nieuwe Merwede river join near Lage Zwaluwe to form the Hollands Diep. The Dordtsche Kil connects to it at near Moerdijk. Near Numansdorp it splits into the Haringvliet and the Volkerak. At this point there is the Hellegatsplein in the water, a road traffic node, connecting to the Hoeksche Waard island on the north by the Haringvliet bridge, to the Goeree-Overflakkee on the west by the Hellegatsdam, and to the mainland on the southeast by the Volkerak Sluices.
On the east side of the Hollands Diep the Moerdijk bridges connect the Dordrecht island on the north to the mainland on the south: a road bridge, a railroad bridge; a second railroad bridge has recently been constructed for the HSL-Zuid.

Next: 2/6: The exciting experience of being in the same train, going through the long so called Willemspoortunnel, beneath Rotterdam (two minutes), to leave the tunnel finally, on a very short distance of Central Station, right in the middle of the Center of Rotterdam.
Every time again a wonderful feeling, arriving in this beautiful new city.
Part 3/6: Rotterdam has been bombed flat on May 14, 1940, and a huge part had to be build up again after that.
Therefore Mahler's Second Symphony fits so well to Rotterdam.

Ecology:
Travelling by train offers the opportunity to meet people, to contact, to inform, to unite.
Travelling by train is one of the most excellent ecological ways to travel: that means that this way of travelling is supporting nature, environment, and so: mankind.
About Ecology:
Ecology is a philosophy that includes all aspects of life - both physical and spiritual. 'Eco' is derived from the Greek word oikos, meaning to feel at home. To feel at home somewhere simply means 'to feel at ease, to be able to be yourself'.

Music:
Vangelis & Vanessa_Mae
From the film Alexander: Roxane's veil
Roxane's Veil is a very modern sounding one with synth chords, bass, harp and gentle percussion introducing a wonderfully heady romantic theme on solo violin played by Vanessa Mae.
