12 THINGS TO DO IN HELSINKI | Guide to Finland's Capital
Heading back to Finland - and specifically Helsinki - was our greatest surprise this summer. As the capital city, it has the attractions any big city offers, yet it somehow retains plenty of small town charm. One of the main reasons is that you're never far from nature. Hop on a bicycle or kayak and you within a few kilometers you'll feel as though you're all alone at one with nature.

With its long days and short nights, summertime is a great time to be in Helsinki. This was our second visit to the Finnish capital, and we were excited as ever to experience it for a couple of days. With summer in full swing, we enjoyed dinners al fresco, boat trips to nearby islands, and lots of walking around town. Here's a look at how we spent our time in Helsinki:
This is a city that comes alive during the summer months, and it was great enjoying all the events taking place in the city as well as relaxing outdoors. We loved revisiting Helsinki and we discovered so many new places that we had completely skipped over the first time around.

2) Helsingin tuomiokirkko
3) Salmiakki Kioski (Suomen Musta Salty Lakritsi)
4) Dinner in the Sky
5) Kauppatori ostaa Suomen matkamuistoja ja syödä lohta
6) Design District

our rent cost in a mexico beach town
How expensive is it to live by the beach? We're sharing what we pay for rent & tips to find a rental in Mexico.
►Rocket Spanish:
We're FINALLY sharing all the details of our Puerto Morelos, Mexico rent in today's travel vlog. This video includes tips on how to find a rental in Mexico, rent costs in Mexico, and the full story about how we decided on an apartment in the Riviera Maya.
If you haven't seen our previous videos, we (Jordan, Maddie, and Laska) are traveling the world, starting with Mexico. For the past year, we've visited dozens of cities across Mexico and just recently, we decided to settle down for a few months in the Riviera Maya beach town called Puerto Morelos. Previously, we thought the Mayan Riviera was too expensive to rent long-term but we were SO WRONG! Not every Mexico beach town is as expensive as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum.
Hope we answered all the questions you might have about rent costs in Mexico, especially regarding this beach town in the Riviera Maya. If you want to know more about Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo or our experiences finding a rental in Mexico, let us know in a comment!

The media paints Mexico as a dangerous place, so we had lots of fears about traveling through the country. After living here for 15 months, our fears about Mexico have changed.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Our story goes like this...
In January of 2018, we made the bold decision to sell everything we owned and leave our lives in the United States to travel through Mexico. All we could take with us in our tangerine-colored Prius C was a few suitcases and our husky Laska.
This Mexico travel video is broken up into 4 sections. Our fears/concerns:
1. Before crossing the border into Mexico;
2. After crossing the border and 1 month into our travels;
3. 6 months after starting to travel Mexico; and
4. In the present day (15 months after living in Mexico).
Some of the fears and concerns we discuss in this vlog:
- Is Mexico as dangerous as the media leads people to believe?
- Do tourists / travelers have to worry about violence in Mexico?
- Is Mexico filled with crooked cops?
- What are the roads like in Mexico? Will our car be okay driving them?
- Is the food / water safe in Mexico?
- Is it a huge mistake to quit our careers and leave our comfortable life in the US to start traveling in Mexico?
- What is it like driving in Mexico? How do we avoid accidents?
- Do we have to worry about military checkpoints in Mexico?
- Are roadblocks in Mexico cause for concern?
- Can we stay in Mexico legally?
- Should we worry about scams in Mexico?
- How do we get packages and deliveries in Mexico?
After 15 months living in Mexico, we realize that some of our initial fears were unfounded and others were legitimate. What we can say with certainty, however, is that how Mexico is portrayed in the media is night and day compared to reality.

Costa Blanca and Valencia, Spain
A week spent travelling in the town of Javea and then a day spent in Valencia. I have been coming to Javea for years and still manage to find a new interesting spot to explore whenever I am there. The sunrises over the sea are especially good here.

How we became minimalist travelers so we could travel Mexico. We're sharing what's REALLY important after a year on the road.
►Subscribe to our channel!
Last year, we began the process of selling all our possessions and preparing to move to Mexico. On January 31st, 2018, we packed up our tangerine-colored Prius C and set off on the biggest adventure of our lives. It’s almost been a year since we’ve been traveling in Mexico and creating 2018 Mexico travel vlogs. During that time, we’ve visited almost every state in the country and dozens of cities along the way.
Even though we were traveling with only two suitcases each, there was still a lot of junk we thought was a “must-have” for travel, but in reality, just took up space, weighed down our bags, and added stress while traveling in Mexico. A year later, (we think) we finally have a grasp on what is truly a necessity and what might be gimmicky or worthless.
We hope these minimalist packing and travel tips and budget-friendly travel advice will help you have stress-free travel experiences in Mexico and other parts of the world.
Quite note: During this travel Mexico vlog, we are in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas. Although we had hoped to make another video in this Pueblo Magico today, it was cold and rainy the whole day. Look out for our upcoming videos in this cool mountain town SOON!

The home of Lego made history in 1989 by becoming the first nation in the world to recognise registered same-sex partnerships.
Capital city Copenhagen is home to Europe’s oldest openly gay bar, Centralhjørnet, whose origins date back to the 1950s; as well as the hip and super-cool district of Vesterbro, which also happens to be the city’s red-light district.
2. New Zealand
The Kiwi's land is well known for its inclusive and progressive behaviour toward the LGBTQ community. In 1998 New Zealand was the first nation to adopt the label of ‘Gay/Lesbian Friendly’ when referring to businesses and accommodation – an initiative now recognised globally.
The country offers a brilliant network of gay- and lesbian-friendly homestays which run the length and breadth of the country from the top of the semi-tropical North Island to the depths of the glacial South.
3. Toronto, Canada
Toronto’s The Village, located in Church-Wellesley, is the cultural hub of the city, bursting with galleries, theatres and gay-friendly businesses.
Home to events such as Pride Week Celebrations, Pride March and Dyke March, gay sub-culture has blossomed and thrived in The Village for decades and it will soon be home to the world’s first gay-focused athletic centre at 519 Church St.
4. Palm Springs, USA
Palm Springs is also a sun-seeker’s paradise where the sun shines almost all year round and where the city has embraced everything gay.
Palm Springs provides the LGBTQ traveller with an amazing array of outdoor activities, excellent shopping and dining, and the world’s best poolside lounging. Palm Springs also offers the largest volume of male- and female-only accommodation anywhere in the world
5. Sitges, Spain
It is located 35km southwest of Barcelona and is home to Spain’s first ever gay disco, which opened back in the 1980s.
It’s now one of Europe’s ‘Big Four’ destinations for LGBTQ travellers. Its stretch of sandy, often clothing-optional beaches make it a favourite for the boys, but its eclectic calendar of events ensures that there’s something for the entire community.
6. Berlin, Germany
Every fetish you could ever dream up can be catered for in Berlin. Germany’s wild side is on display here and Berlin proudly boasts a vibrant and inclusive gay history that dates back to the golden age of the 1920s.
The districts of Schöneberg, Kreuzberg and Prenzlauerberg provide a diverse range of clubs, bars and restaurants for sampling. With no ‘closing time’ in Berlin, the party never ends!
7. Skiathos & Mykonos, Greece
After 1970s, gay men have been flocking to the island of whitewashed houses and courtyards, seeking out glamour and the famous Mediterranean sun.
For a less hedonistic holiday, the sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and pine forested hills of Skiathos offer a relaxed and authentic experience for the LGBTQ traveller.
8. New York City, USA
The incredibly inclusive communities of the West Village, Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen provide a fabulous array of gay-friendly accommodation options.
Littered with significant LGBTQ landmarks such as Christopher St, the Harvey Milk School, the Lesbian Herstory Archives and, hello, Broadway and the Theater District, New York is a gay traveller’s mecca.
9. Reykjavik, Iceland
Reykjavik has been described as one of the friendliest places and most inclusive on Earth. In 2015, Reykjavik will hosted its 17th Gay Pride march, and the 11th Bears on Ice event.
In 2006, same-sex couples were granted equal rights with their heterosexual counterparts without limitation.
10. Montevideo, Uruguay
Uruguay was the second Latin American country to legalise same-sex marriage, and homosexuality has been decriminalised since 1934.
The relaxed attitude present in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo provides a brilliant juxtaposition to the hustle and bustle of the likes of Buenos Aires.
