Day 4 in Pakistan - Watch the entire series in order here:
Not far from Gujranwala we continued to Kot Yousaf, a small community village, still in Punjab, Pakistan. We were invited by the Bagdi family to enjoy a home cooked local (desi) breakfast - I didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be an amazing breakfast where the entire community came together.
But first:
You’ve already heard me saying “desi ghee” many times in previous videos in Pakistan. But desi is commonly used, even for “desi food.” But what does it mean? Here’s the definition:
Desi -
1. local; indigenous
2. unadulterated or pure
When you say desi ghee, it means clarified butter that is locally sourced, and it’s one of the most important ingredients in Punjabi food in Pakistan. It’s used in so many dishes, and it usually comes from buffaloes.
It was an amazing opportunity and experience to watch the community in the village an impressive Punjabi food breakfast. The main dishes we had were a variety of different parathas, chickpeas, and saag - a local wild spinach simmered down, and one of my personal favorite dishes in Pakistan. It was awesome to watch them make the food before we ate, and a huge thank you to all the amazing people who prepared it.
Tent pegging - After breakfast we had the special opportunity to watch tent pegging, a sport where one rides a horse, and spears a peg in the ground while racing by. It’s more than a sport, it’s an art, and it’s been a part of Pakistani culture since ancient times.
Thank you to everyone who hosted me and gave me so much hospitality and generosity. It was an amazing day in Pakistan!
Thank you to Ali (Pakistan Travel Market) and Saim who arranged and planned our day in Gujranwala.

Berga town in Catalonia Spain
Barcelona, Spain
Recorded August 21, 2008.
Barcelona is the most populous city of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, with a population of 1,615,908 in 2008, while the population of the Metropolitan Area was 3,161,081. It is located on the Mediterranean coast between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs and is bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge. Barcelona is a major economic centre with one of Europe's principal Mediterranean ports, and Barcelona International Airport is the second largest in Spain after Madrid-Barajas Airport.
The video begins before sunrise when I sail into Barcelona on the Sea Princess. After a beautiful sunrise I watch the many other ships sailing into the port for the day. Next I journey into the city and walk down La Rambla the main thoroughfare famous for its mimes. My walk continues past the Columbus Monument, a 197 foot tall monument for Christopher Columbus. The video concludes back on the Sea Princess as we sail away. My time in the city was limited as I spent most of the day at Montserrat which is an hours drive outside the city.

Female Naga Sadhus during Ardh Kumbh at Prayaga in 2007
Ardh Kumbh at Prayaga in 2007, witnessed the participation of female Naga Sadhus. They underwent the ritual cleansing that ordains them into the order. They shaved their hair and performed their own last rites.
More than 70 million people visited Ardh Kumbh Mela at Prayag in 2007.
Kumbh Mela is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river. It is considered to be largest peaceful gathering in the world. It is held every third year at one of the four places by rotation: Haridwar, Allahabad (Prayaga), Nashik and Ujjain. Thus the Kumbh Mela is held at each of these four places every twelfth year. Ardha Kumbh Mela is held at only two places, Haridwar and Allahabad, every sixth year.
Ardh Kumbh Mela is celebrated once in every six years after the hosting of Maha Kumbh Mela festival, the celebration of which takes place after every twelve years. The venue keeps on changing from time to time. There are primarily four locations for conducting the Ardha Kumbh Mela, namely Prayag near Allahabad, Ujjain, Nasik and Haridwar. Ardh Kumbh Mela has been drawing more and more crowds year after year. Pilgrims visit this religious mela for the cleansing of their soul.
During the festive period of Ardh Kumbha Mela, a tent city turns up to provide refuge to the thousands of worshippers. Plenty of religious Hindu organizations set up their camps. Different theatre groups come in the forefront and enact plays that depict scenes from the religious scriptures of Hindus. The story of war between the demons and deities for obtaining the nectar is acted out, which brings out the significance of conducting Kumbh Mela. The festival of Kumbha Mela is truly a spectacle of faith.
Triveni Sangam is the 'confluence' of three rivers. Sangama is the Sanskrit word for confluence. The point of confluence is a sacred place for Hindus. A bath here is said to wash away all of one's sins and free one from the cycle of rebirth. Triveni Sangam, in Prayag (Allahabad) has two physical rivers Ganges, Yamuna, and the invisible or mythic Saraswati River. The site is in Prayag, India.
Allahabad built on a very ancient site of the Aryans formerly known as Prayag, is located at the junction of the holy rivers Ganga and the Yamuna. The city acquired its present name in 1 largest religious gathering in the world, is held every 12 years at the confluence of the holy rivers attracting millions of Hindu devotees. This historically famous city was a centre of the Indian Independence movement and the home of the Nehru family. Today Allahabad is a rapidly growing commercial and administrative city in Uttar Pradesh.
