Roots of Segregation in Virginia: A Community Conversation with Ed Ayers
On June 9, 2017 History United hosted a community event exploring Virginia history of segregation, disfranchisement, and resistance from emancipation into the early 20th century. The talk took place at Danville's historic High Street Baptist Church where, in July of 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. spoke to a crowd of Civil Rights activists. The 2017 talk featured Ed Ayers, recipient of the National Humanities Medal in 2013 and historian of the American South.

When purchasing a new in-ground swimming pool, you need to determine what size pool pump is required. There is tendency to purchase a bigger pump than is necessary thinking bigger is best. However, not only does this lead to higher operating costs, but you may also be overpowering your filter system. As a general rule you should have a pump that filters all the water in a pool in an 8 hour period. This page will show you how to select a pump that filters all the water in your pool in 8 hours.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), (also Women's Army Service Pilots or Women's Auxiliary Service Pilots) was a civilian women pilots' organization, whose members were United States federal civil service employees. Members of WASP became trained pilots who tested aircraft, ferried aircraft and trained other pilots. Their purpose was to free male pilots for combat roles during World War II. Despite various members of the armed forces being involved in the creation of the program, the WASP and its members had no military standing.
WASP was preceded by the Women's Flying Training Detachment (WFTD) and the Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron (WAFS). Both were organized separately in September 1942. They were pioneering organizations of civilian women pilots, who were attached to the United States Army Air Forces to fly military aircraft during World War II. On August 5, 1943, the WFTD and WAFS merged to create the WASP organization.
The WASP arrangement with the US Army Air Forces ended on December 20, 1944. During its period of operation, each member's service had freed a male pilot for military combat or other duties. They flew over 60 million miles; transported every type of military aircraft; towed targets for live anti-aircraft gun practice; simulated strafing missions and transported cargo. Thirty-eight WASP members lost their lives and one disappeared while on a ferry mission, her fate still unknown as of 2018. In 1977, for their World War II service, the members were granted veteran status, and in 2009 awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.

I'm sure by now you know how passionate I am about genealogy and preserving family history. I'm dedicated to teaching those wishing to learn the right way of investigating, analyzing and reporting genealogical findings.
But let's face it, genealogy is just plain fun. I love the hunt, the discovery and the excitement of sharing with others.
What you may not know (besides my lifelong passion for genealogy) is I’ve had a long career in television broadcasting and management. I’m also a wildlife and nature photographer.
Now is the time for me to take all these skills into a new side-kick. I’m using my talents in photography, television, video production, editing, and as a lifelong genealogist, combining those skills together to create the Genealogy TV and NC Ancestry as YouTube channels along with similar websites and blogs.
I promise… I’m dedicated to this effort.
I really appreciate your support.
Thanks so much!
