Firstly, we took a bus for about 1 hour and 10 minutes from Salzburg, to Bad Ischl train station. From there we had about a 30 minute wait and then boarded the train which took about 40 minutes or so to Hallstatt.
When the train drops you off, you must buy a ferry ticket at 2.5 Euro per person to cross the lake and get to Hallstatt. The boat takes approx. 10 minutes to cross.
You can spend as little as one hour there or spend the night. It is up to you.
I recommend to rent a small electric boat for 13-15 euro per 30 minutes and see the lake and the town on your own.
There are several restaurants with fresh fish. I recommend the trout and a mixed dark and light beer.
There are several viewpoints for great photos, just hike upwards.
The salt mine was supposed to be awesome, but we had to skip it for time constraints.
Very worth a visit if you can make it happen!

On a spur of the moment trip, we decided to catch a train from Munich, Germany to Salzburg, Austria - which is just a 1.5 hour train ride away. We only had a few hours, so I wanted to make the most of eating Austrian food for the time we had. We also were able to walk around Salzburg and visit some famous attractions during the day.
Here’s the list of Austrian food I ate during a one day trip to Salzburg, Austria:
1. Cafe Am Kai - Cafe Am Kai is a nice trendy cafe along the river with great views. I ordered a kleiner brauner, a type of Austrian style coffee and an apple strudel. Total price - 14.40 EUR for 3 of us
2. Bärenwirt Restaurant - This is a restaurant that serves fantastic home-style Austrian food in Salzburg. To begin with I ordered frothed beer soup, which was very creamy and pretty good. I ordered my first ever wiener schnitzel in Austria, which is one of the Austrian food national dishes. Finally I had to try the Austrian käsespätzle an extremely warming and cheesey pasta dish. Price - 33.90 EUR
3. Balkan Grill Walter - Balkan Grill is known to serve the best bosna sausage, a type of Austrian food sausage that originates from Salzburg. It was honestly an amazing sausage, but I think it would have been better with some kind of sauce on it. Bosna sausage - 3.70 EUR
4. Augustiner Bräu Kloster Mülln - There’s no doubt Augustiner Bräu Kloster Mülln is the best of the best, an institution beer garden and hall in Salzburg. They serve your beer right out of the barrel, and it’s amazingly crisp. You can then walk around and order Austrian food from any number of the food stalls. Small beer - 3.10 EUR, ribs and sausage plates - 14.95 EUR, fish - 9 EUR
We then completely ran out of time and had to run to the Salzburg train station to catch our train back to Munich!
Thank you very much for watching this Austrian food tour in Salzburg!

Top 10 látnivaló Ausztriában
Ausztria a legjobb választás, ha gyönyörű tájakat szeretnénk bebarangolni, igényes síterepeket keresünk vagy eltöltenénk néhány kellemes napot a szép történelmi épületekkel teletűzdelt városokban. Bécs, az ország fővárosa a legnépszerűbb úticél, sok más nevezetesség mellett itt találjuk a hatalmas Hofburg Császári Palota és a világhírű Bécsi Állami Operaház épületét. A téli sportok szerelmeseinek paradicsoma a tiroli Seefeld, mely a legszebb hegyvidéki környezetben, minőségi szolgáltatásokkal csalogatja a felüdülésre vágyó turistákat. Ide nemcsak télen, de az év többi szakában is érdemes ellátogatni, hiszen területe természetvédelmi értékekkel rendelkezik, kiváló a túrázáshoz.

What to see in Novi Sad, Serbia
Novi Sad is the second largest city of Serbia and is just 74 km north of the capital Belgrade. The city lies on the banks of the Danube river and numerous international tourist cruisers stop in its harbour. Novi Sad is a home of the famous EXIT music festival, one of the best in Europe that brings together the best musicians from around the world.
What to see in Novi Sad:
- Visit Petrovaradin fortress on the right bank of the Danube, which was built in the time of the Austrian emperors Leopold I, Joseph I, Charles VI, Maria Teresa and Joseph II. Enter through the lavish arch of Leopold Gate, visit the city's museum housed inside the former Gunners' Barracks, and don't forget to have a gander at the quirky clock tower which has its hands the wrong way around (so the small hand shows minutes and the big hand shows hours) to aid far-off fishermen along the Danube.
- Trg Slobode (Freedom Square) is the largest central city square, built in the 18th century. On the west side of the square is the Town Hall built in 1895th in Neo-Renaissance style, designed by architect George Molnar. On the opposite side of the square, is a tall catholic church “Name of Mary”. It was built in 1895th in neogothic in style.
- A majestic Art Nouveau building a short walk from Freedom Square, Novi Sad’s Synagogue is one of the city’s most impressive buildings. The synagogue saw its fair share of tragedy in the 20th century.
- A short walk from Freedom Square lies the Bishop’s Palace, sitting at the end of the Zmaj Jovina street. It is a residential palace of the Serbian Orthodox Bishop of the Diocese of Backa. The building was built in 1901 in the Serbian-Byzantine style, designed by architect Vladimir Nikolic.
- Zmaj Jovina Street is one of the oldest streets in Novi Sad. It extends from Freedom Square to the bishop's palace. The street was once a place with a number of craft and trade shops, and it was called Magazinska alley. At the end of the street, in front of the bishop's house, since 1984, there is a monument of Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj, the most famous children's poet, after which street bears its name.
- At the Theatre Square there is a large and modern building of the Serbian National Theatre.
- Behind the building of the theater's is Uspen church, built in 1774th in the Baroque style.
- The City Museum, Platoneum and Museum of Vojvodina are undoubtedly the jewels in this city. The city also has a number of excellent galleries, including the Matica Srpska gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina.
- Dunavska Street is probably the oldest street in Novi Sad. On the left side of the street are houses in neo-baroque style. At the beginning of the Dunavska streets, there is the city library in the house that was built in 1895.
- Dunavski Park is the oldest and most beautiful park in Novi Sad. The first trees were planted in the 19th century.
