The Story of a Town
The Town of Bassendean is located approximately 10 kilometres north-east of Perth and 5 minutes from the Swan Valley vineyards. With a total area of 11 square kilometres, the Town is bounded by the Swan River, the City of Swan to the north and the City of Bayswater to the west. It has a river frontage of 7 kilometres.
Point Walter Jetty Fishing Spot Bicton Perth
If you go onto Point Walter road off of Leach Highway and continue past the golf course, all the way down to the end of the road, there is a jetty with a great view. There is also a long sand peninsular going 200 meters into the river than you can walk on at low tide.

WAGR steam locomotive audio - see video description and pinned comment for notes

The audio in this video was recorded in the late '50s & early '60s and features genuine audio of Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) locomotives in regular revenue earning service.
Where I could not find photos of the actual locomotive/s featured in the audio recordings, I have used the closest numbered sister locomotive that I was able to find. None of the locomotive photos coincide with the locations where the audio was recorded (unfortunately!).
The audio I used to make this video was supplied with the following notes and info:
00:00 Dm583 and Dd597, West Leederville.
Dm 583 is heard approaching up the 1 in 80 grade from West Perth. While 583 is approaching, Dd 597 can be heard to whistle and start from West Leederville and approach on the other track. The Dm passes the recorder working hard up the grade. Barely has it passed when Dd 597 coasts quickly by on the downgrade, its snifter valves whistling as it speeds on towards West Perth.
01:08 Pr538, Swan View
Pr 538 approaches Swan View in the foothills of the Darling Range. The engine is working hard and struggling to maintain traction up the steep grade. Steam supply is not a problem however, as the safety valves can be heard to lift at 02:20. A light engine can be heard passing by on the other track at 03:31, its connecting rods clanking as it drifts down the grade towards Midland Junction.
04:15 W954 and V1209 Swan View

At the same location as the previous track, a W and a V can be heard working hard to lift their train of refrigerated containers up the steep grade through the Perth Hills, with the W class slipping several times as it approaches the microphone, the driver regaining control each time. At around 07:12, the sound of the motorized refrigeration units can be heard over the rumbling wagons.
08:42 Pmr731, Benger
Originally built as part of a class of fast passenger engines, Pmr 731 can be heard approaching and passing at speed, her chime whistle sounding clearly as she roars past and on into the night.
10:19 W951, Donnybrook

The train is already on the move as the audio recording starts. Several whistles can be heard as the locomotive accelerates, the rail joints accentuating the pace of the train as it approaches track speed.
