Places to see in ( Folkestone - UK )
Folkestone is a port town on the English Channel, in Kent, south-east England. The town of Folkestone lies on the southern edge of the North Downs at a valley between two cliffs. Folkestone was an important harbour and shipping port for most of the 19th and 20th centuries.
There has been a settlement in Folkestone since the Mesolithic era. A nunnery was founded by Eanswith, daughter of Æthelberht of Kent in the 7th century, who is still commemorated as part of the town's culture. During the 13th century Folkestone subsequently developed into a seaport and the harbour developed during the early 19th century to provide defence against a French invasion, and expanded further after the arrival of the railway in 1843. The harbour's use has diminished since the opening of the nearby Channel Tunnel and stopping of local ferry services, but still remains in active use.
Folkestone is located where the southern edge of the North Downs, escarpment meets the sea. In contrast to the white cliffs at Dover further to the east, the cliffs at Folkestone are composed of Greensand and Gault Clay. The town of Folkestone is now built on both sides of the original valley: the West Cliff and The Bayle to the West, and the East Cliff on the other side of the stream. The Pent Stream now runs through a culvert from the fire station, at the junction of Radnor Park Road, Park Farm and Pavilion Road, until it reaches the inner harbour.
The major landmark in Folkestone, apart from the harbour, is the Leas, the cliffs above the beach. A Martello Tower (No 3) stands on the cliff above Copt Point. Built in 1806 as a defence against Napoleon, it has also been a Coast Guard lookout, a family home, a golf clubhouse and a Second World War Naval mine control post. It now houses a visitor centre. The Folkestone White Horse is carved on Cheriton Hill above the Channel Tunnel terminal.
The Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty includes part of the town area. The nearby Brockhill Country Park, to the west, with footpaths around a lake and in a valley, links with the Royal Military Canal at Hythe. Folkestone is near to two important Battle of Britain landmarks – the Battle of Britain Memorial, Capel-le-Ferne and the Kent Battle of Britain Museum – the oldest Battle of Britain Museum in the UK.
Folkestone developed because of its transport links. With France visible across the Strait of Dover, the town became an important transit point for those travelling from the UK to the Continent. The railway reached Folkestone on 28 June 1843 and a temporary railway station was built while the construction of the line to Dover continued. This started with the Foord viaduct, designed by Sir William Cubitt, completed in 1844. Folkestone Junction railway station was then opened and construction through the cliffs between Dover & Folkestone commenced.

Botany Bay Broadstairs - DJI Phantom 4 Pro 2019
This is the second time we came to this bay to film, as the first was way too windy to really show off the chalk stacks.
Located on the south east coast of England in Kent, Botany Bay is the northernmost of seven bays in Broadstairs. (I've already filmed two of the others: Kingsgate Bay and Viking Bay: )
Low tide is the best time to explore, from the golden sands at the bottom of the chalk cliffs, to rocks and crags nearer the water's edge. It's also at low tide that you get to walk around and through the chalk stacks, though on windy days be prepared for a battle against the elements as they funnel the wind!
You may also want to note that the car park is very small and this place gets very busy most days, even in the winter.

If you are thinking about buying a holiday home, you will soon discover that there are a great deal of different factors to take into consideration, and as with everything in life, plenty of choice. So how can you make the best choice for you?
You’ve made the decision you would like to buy a holiday home, and whether that is along the coast of Folkestone, or nestled in the countryside of Dover or Birchington, here are 3 reasons why to choose Keat Farm for your holiday home;
The Locations
Location, location, location. We are very lucky to have prime locations spanning around the Kentish coast and countryside, so if your first question is coast or countryside, you can enjoy both from any one of our four locations. Each location also benefits from a plethora of amenities and things to do in the local area, so you can fill your time with plenty of exploring, eating, drinking and activities should you chose to.
The Facilities
During low season, and throughout the year when needed, we like to make sure each site is up to the highest standard, not only for our holiday makers, but for the environment and our important local wildlife. We are proud to have achieved Gold in the David Bellamy Conservation awards, in addition to that we have also been acknowledged as a Honey Bee Friendly park. We like to make sure our parks are buzzing with activity, literally, so we are always busy planting new flowers, installing bird houses, hedgehog houses, and anything else to attract some local visitors. During the low season, we take the time to prepare for the summer, with plans to plant wildflowers and herb gardens.
We are also proud to offer recycling facilities as this is of increasing importance to our home owners, in addition to award-winning shower facilities, eco-friendly laundry rooms, eco plots and frequent tree landscaping, across all sites, with plans to continue investment in our facilities. Keep up to date with our park newsletters to see what’s coming up.
The People
Each park has a community hub, generally the café, whereby all sorts of activities take place such as quiz nights, bingo, local garden competitions and seasonal activities.
As a family–owned business, with helpful, friendly staff on hand, and always busy with park activities, each Keat Farm Holiday park offers a strong sense of community which is something we really value.
We like to see you enjoying your holiday home, the parks and everything involved, so will continually invest and develop our parks to make this happen!
