BEAUTIFUL TUSCANY VINEYARDS (AND WINERY), ITALY
The Tuscany region in central Italy is known for it's beautiful landscapes and wine making. We visited one winery and got to see the amazing green vineyards that Tuscany is famous for. Not far from this vineyard is the famous walled city of San Gimignano. As you can see, a visit to Tuscany is not one you'll soon forget.

Caprese Michelangelo. Panorama dal Museo sulla Rocca.
Caprese Michelangelo owes its name to Michelangelo Buonarroti who was born here on the 6th of March, 1475, at a time when his father Ludovico was the town’s authoritative figure. It is on the Apennine ridge, in the greenest area of the Tuscan Val Tiberina.
The territory, that reaches a height of 1415m above sea level on the Catenaria Alps (M. Castello), is crossed by numerous water courses that converge in the Singerna River that is united to the Tiber by the Montedoglio Lake.
In 1731, the Medici’s century-long era having ended, the territory passed under administration of the Asburgo-Lorena, interrupted by the brief, but important, French domination (1799-1814). With the plebiscite of 1860, Caprese, like all of Tuscany, became part of the Kingdom of Sardinia and then of Italy.
In this period, new splendour came to Caprese in the form and works of Giovanni Santini (Caprese 1787 – Noventa Padovana 1877), astronomer and mathematician, distinguished in teaching and research. With the Royal Decree of the 9th February 1913, the name Michelangelo was added to the old one, referring to the Great Artist’s birthplace.
The memory of Buonarroti still lives today in the Church of St. John, and inside the castle walls that hosted the Michelangelo Museum: the Birth House, Palazzo Clusini, today the seat of the Municipality, the Stronghold Rooms, in which old plaster moulds from the Florentine galleries can be found, and the striking open-air Sculpture Museum. The traces of this intense history can still be admired today in Caprese’s most significant monuments: the medieval stronghold, built in the 10th century; the Camaldolite Abbey of Tifi; the Parish of St. Cassian, exalted by the expressive power of its atmosphere; the romantic church of St. Christopher and the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Selva.
The places that show the passing of St. Francis during his travels, from Assisi to the Sacred Mount Verna, stir up both admiration and respect: the Church of St. Polo, the Chapel of Zenzano, the Monastery of the Casella.
History, art and environment melt together in Caprese’s reality: from which the main events take life: art meetings, fresco courses, exhibitions and conventions, concerts, folklore, the Festival of the Chestnut, recreation and sport activities, trekking in the woods and ancient places.
Caprese Michelangelo, deve il suo nome, a Michelangelo Buonarroti che qui nacque il 6 marzo 1475, nel periodo in cui il padre Ludovico vi svolgeva la funzione di Podestà. E’ collocato sulla dorsale appenninica, nell’area più verde della Val Tiberina Toscana.Il territorio, che raggiunge l’altitudine di 1415 metri nell’Alpe di Catenaria (M. Castello), è attraversato da numerosi corsi d’acqua confluenti nel torrente Singerna, che si unisce al Tevere nel lago di Montedoglio. Nel 1737, terminata la secolare epoca dei Medici, il territorio passò sotto l’amministrazione degli Asburgo-Lorena, intercalata in breve, ma importante dominio francese (1799-1814). Con il plebiscito del 1860, Caprese, come tutta la Toscana, entrò a far parte del regno di Sardegna e poi di’Italia. In questo periodo nuovo lustro venne a Caprese dalla figura e dell’opera di Giovanni Santini (Caprese 1787 – Noventa Padovana 1877), astronomico e matematico eminente nell’insegnamento e nella ricerca.Con Regio Decreto del 9 Febbraio 1913, fu aggiunto all’antico nome quello di Michelangelo, a significare i natali che qui ebbe il Sommo Artista.Il ricordo del Buonarroti vive ancora oggi nella Chiesa di San Giovanni, e all’interno delle mura castellane che ospitarono il Museo Michelangiolesco: la Casa Natale, il Palazzo Clusini, oggi sede del Municipio, le Sale della Rocca, in cui si trovano antichi calchi in gesso donati dalle Gallerie Fiorentine, ed il suggestivo Museo di Scultura all’aperto.Le tracce di questa storia intensa si possono ammirare ancora oggi nei monumenti più significativi di Caprese: la Rocca medioevale, costruita nel X secolo, l’Abbazia camaldolese di Tifi, la Pieve di San Cassiano, esaltata dalla potenza espressiva del suo ambiente, la romantica Chiesa di San Cristoforo ed il Santuario della Madonna della Selva.Suscitano ammirazione e rispetto i luoghi che testimoniano il passaggio di San Francesco durante i suoi viaggi da Assisi al Sacro Monte della Verna: la Chiesa di San Polo, la Cappella di Zenzano, l’Eremo della Casella.Storia, arte e ambiente si fondono nella realtà di Caprese: da ciò prendono vita principali manifestazioni: incontri d’arte, corsi sull’affresco, mostre e convegni, concerti, folclore, Festa della Castagna, attività ricreativi e sportive, trekking per boschi e luoghi antichi.

Getting There/Directions
Just besides the steps to Piazzale Michelangelo, near the porta (gate) of San Niccolò.
San Niccolo is a nieghborhood at the base of a hill where Piaxali Michel Angelo is located. Away from touristic hurriers of the city, the nieghborhood has many bars and resturants frequented by locals. Il Rifrullo is one such resturant and bar that is very popular with the locals. Lots of people come in here for an apperatite or an after dinner drink.
We have a diner room but we have also a beautiful terrace. We have traditional Tuscan foods and also some ethnic dishes. I have chosen to start with the mixed Tuscan appitizer. Gracias. Now here we have traditional Tuscan ham, Prosciutto crudo, which is saltier palmaham. And we have some Tuscan salami and finocchiona and some pecorino cheese, which is sheep's cheese. Which is fabulous with honeys and marmalades. We have bruschetta, which is bread with fresh tomatoe, olive oil, garlic and basil. And some patte, which is kept hot with a little candle inside here, that we put on bread. Which is liver patte. And marinated artichoke.
Now I am having palatale, with vegetarian ragu. It has carrot, onions, I can taste some celery and definately garlic. Well, they talked me into having the chocolate souffle. I am Carolina Gamini, showing you Florence.

LA VERNA è un santuario francescano sorto nel luogo dove il Santo si ritirava spesso in preghiera e penitenza e dove ricevette le stimmate nel settembre 1224. E' un luogo di intensa spiritualità, immerso in un ambiente mistico ed affascinante anche per la natura che lo circonda fra rocce e boschi di faggio e abete. Si trova in Toscana, provincia di Arezzo, a circa 1000 mt sul monte Penna nel Parco nazionale delle foreste casentinesi, a pochi km da Pieve Santo Stefano e da Caprese Michelangelo.
GUBBIO è una bella cittadina umbra, molto interessante con un nucleo medievale ben conservato. E' famosa per la Festa(corsa) dei Ceri che si svolge ogni anno nel mese di maggio in onore di sant'Ubaldo patrono della città. Anche Gubbio è molto legata a S.Francesco: qui il Santo si rifugiò per qualche mese all'inizio della vocazione dopo essersi allontanato da casa e spogliato degli abiti comuni, qui ritornava spesso, qui avvennero alcuni miracoli, qui -da leggenda- il famoso episodio dell'incontro col lupo, reso mansueto dopo averlo rimproverato.
S. MARIA degli ANGELI è considerata il centro del francescanesimo. All'interno della Basilica si trova la porziuncola, una cappella a forma di chiesetta rimasta per lungo tempo in stato di abbandono, che il Santo restaurò e che segnò l'inizio della sua vocazione. Qui san Francesco viveva abitualmente, qui fondò l'ordine dei Frati Minori e qui morì nell'ottobre 1226.
ASSISI è la città dove il Santo nacque nel 1182(?) e dove trascorse la sua giovinezza fino alla vocazione. All'eremo delle carceri si ritirava spesso per pregare e meditare. Ora il suo corpo riposa nella cripta della Basilica inferiore. Costruita in pietra viva, spesso con toni rosati, la città sorge a ventaglio sulle prime pendici del monte Subasio; tutta raccolta entro le mura antiche, ha conservato magnificamente il suo aspetto medievale con le caratteristiche viuzze dai balconi fioriti.

Welcome to “Casale Aia” Farm!
An old and original Tuscan farmhouse that has been completely and expertly renovated, obtaining flats that sleep from 2 to 10 people, as well as 3 villas in the park.
The tasteful renovation was taken care of down to the last detail to create a rustic yet comfortable ambience. You will enjoy terracotta-tiled floors and a combination of wood beam and Tuscan-style vaulted ceilings. The furniture is in the original Tuscan style and creates a very cosy and elegant ambience. The flats are equipped with all modern conveniences, including satellite TV, air conditioning and heating. Entering the property from the large electric gate at the main entrance, it is impossible to look away from the large, fenced in, well tended park surrounding the farm. It offers our guests a beautiful chromatic impact between the green of the lawn and the antique ochre colour of the farm, which make it worthy of a photograph.
The extensive park (3 hectares, completely fenced in) with lawn, almond and pomegranate trees, acts as a background to the large, gradual depth swimming pool, where you will find umbrellas and sunbeds.
Also within the park there is an area with 4 large barbecues, and another area reserved for private parking.
The property is completely fenced in, making it a safe place for children to play.
The farm is located in a very peaceful place and is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, which are typical of the area. In fact, we are located in one of the most renowned wine-growing and producing areas in the world. The renowned ancient village of Bolgheri, birthplace of the world-famous Sassicaia, Ornellaia and Masseto wines, is just a few minutes away from Casale Aia.
The New York Times Magazine classified our area of Bolgheri and surroundings 44th among the most beautiful places in the world to visit, while the renowned Forbes Magazine has written numerous articles on the area and on its celebrated wines.
You can purchase both the excellent red and white wines, as well as the oil, at our farm also, all of it produced by us and coming from our vineyards in Bolgheri.
We are in a strategic location. In fact, we are right on the beautiful Etruscan Coast, only about 30 minutes by car from the Pisa Airport. The sandy beaches of the Riviera are only a 5 minute drive by car. There are 20 Km of beaches within easy reach.
You can go to a different beach every day: for example, the sandy beaches of Marina di Bibbona and Cecina Mare, lined by beautiful pinewoods, or you can decide to go to the renowned white beaches of Vada, known for their very white sand and crystal-clear waters that remind us of the Caribbean.
The area offers a wide variety of amusements and entertainment, including the water park in Cecina Mare and the amusement park in Marina di Bibbona, a must for children.
All of the most important cities of art in our region can be easily reached.
For example, Volterra, San Gimignano and Pisa are about a half hour drive by car. Florence and Siena about 1 hour, with very convenient motorway connections.
All you have to do now is choose your preferred accommodations. The flats at our farm sleep from 2 to 10 people; some of them also have connecting doors in order to adapt to larger family group. Don’t forget the cottages and villas, which also sleep from 2 to 10 people.
