Dhokaney Waterfall on Nainitaal-Almora Road || Best offbeat place uttrakhand
While going on Nainital-Almora road, we saw a board for Dhokaney waterfall and went for it and it was worth. It is about 60 km from nainital near Suyalbari village. Entry fee is Rs. 100 per person to keep defaulters away from this beautiful place.

Why Is Key Monastery in Spiti Unique | Spiti Valley Tour | Desi Girl Traveller
This video is part 4 of my Spiti Valley Tour series. I have travelled to Key monastery from Kaza in this video. Part 1 has my journey from Delhi to Manali to Gramphoo, Part 2 has journey from Gramphoo to Kaza, Part 3 has things I did at Pin Valley and Mudh Village in Spiti, and Part 4 (this vlog) has me exploring the 1000 years old monastery in Spiti – Key Monastery. Check out the Part 1,2, and 3 vlogs. links given below. This monastery is also known as Key Gompa and it is said to be the biggest monastery in the entire Spiti valley. This place also works as a training centre for Lamas.
It is said that the Key monastery was founded in 1008 AD. It later got destroyed due to several earthquakes. Today, it has been redesigned and restored and till look magnificent like its original structure.
Key Monastery is located at a distance of 16 kms from Kaza and it took us 1.5 hours to travel from Kaza to the Monastery. I have also featured a few locals in this video. I talked to local people of Spiti and also lived my days like locals of Spiti.

Alchi Monastery - The wonder of India
Alchi (1020AD) - Marvel of Ladakh and Kashmir
Alchi represents the pinnacle of Trans-Himalayan art.
These magnificent wall paintings, dated between 11th – 13th century AD, are from Alchi monastery located 65 kms west of Leh. King Yeshe Od of Guge and famous scholar Rinchen Zangpo have built 108 monasteries in Tibetan region. Out of these 3 temples were believed to be created in one night – Sumda, Mangyu and Alchi.
The Sumtseg, a three storied building is one of the most outstanding artistic creations in Kashmir. It houses 3 colossal statues of Bodhisattvas. The sculpture of Avalokiteshwara stands 4m high and his dhoti is filled with miniature paintings of palaces, temples and royal life. The Alchi murals combine the best of Kashmiri and Tibetian art and provide a rare glimpse of the peaceful coexistence of Buddhism and Shaivaism traditions in Kashmir. It is remarkable that the stone colors used don’t show any sign of fading and glows even after 1000 years.
The tallest sculpture of Maitreya stands 5m tall and his dhoti is depicted with 50 roundels showing various episodes of Buddha Shakyamuni. The important paintings show the birth of Price Siddhartha at Lumbini gardens, the young prince undergoing penance, attaining enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, preaching to 5 companions at Sarnath and images of Akshobhaya Buddha. They are breathtakingly beautiful and real.
The third giant sculpture of orange hue is that of Manjushri. There are 84 mahasiddhas depicted on his dhoti in chequered squares. On the upper storey above the head of Manjushri is the painting of standing Tara with 8 hands. On the right hand wall of Sumtseg, there are 1000 miniature paintings of Manjushri painted in 5 colours. The central icon is the 4-armed golden Manjushri holding a sword and a book decorated with intricate gold work.
This iconic painting of the Lady of Alchi is that of Shyama Tara seated in a sun disc. Note this style of painting where the almond shaped eyes is projected beyond the outline of the face, a style perfected earlier in Ellora and Ajanta.
Alchi represents the pinnacle of trans-Himalayan art where beauty and divinity reaches the exquisite levels of Ajanta and South Indian Temples.
What differentiates Alchi from other imposing hill top monasteries in Ladakh is that it is small and built in the valley with flat roofs. It’s status as a backwater possibly saved it from being destroyed in the many Mughal and Dogra wars.
The cold dry desert of Ladakh has helped preserve the beautiful paintings. However recent rains resulting from climate changes are causing massive destruction to the mud walls & wooden ceilings. Negligence arising out of infighting between monks and ASI is preventing proper restoration work.
Visit Alchi before it is too late and lost forever in the wheels of time.
How to reach - Alchi can be reached from Leh (66Kms) or Srinagar - Kargil (383Kms). Stay near Alchi or Lamayaru and plan a visit to Alchi and Likir Monasteries.

Tabo monastery was founded in 996 AD and is noted for being the oldest continuously operating Buddhist enclave in both India and Himalayas. We then resumed our journey and headed towards Dhankar monstery which is 31 km ahead of Tabo. The monastery is built on a 1000 ft high spur overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers - one of the world's most spectacular settings for a gompa.
We then reached Kaza. Kaza is the subdivisional headquarters of the remote Spiti Valley in the Lahaul and Spiti district and situated along the Spiti River at an elevation of 3,650 m which is the largest township and commercial centre of the valley. The ancient Sakya Tangyud Monastery is one of the points of interest in this town.
We took a diversion from the highway and ascended towards Langza, which is 14 km away from Kaza at an altitude of around 4435 m. We already dropped our luggage at the hotel in Kaza and after having lunch there we decided to visit Langza, Komic and Hikkim first, which is an offbeat location around Kaza. As Ki, Kibber and Tashigang can be covered on next day as it falls on the way to Chandratal.

Trip to Gangotri and Harsil | Ganga origin | Uttrakhand | offbeat place | Ride with Baleno
Harsil: Known as the camper’s bay of Uttarakhand, Harsil is an unspoiled village and a cantonment town. It is a favourite among tourists seeking peace and serenity in the lap of the Himalayas.
Harsil is situated on the banks of Bhagirathi River at an elevation of 2,620 m above sea level, 25 km from the popular pilgrimage of Gangotri.
Gangotri, the origin of River Ganga and the seat of goddess Ganga, is situated in Uttarakhand, it is 300 km from Dehradun and very close to the Indo-Tibetan border. The Gangotri Temple was built by a Gorkha commander in the 18th century. Apart from its religious significance, Gangotri is also a miracle of nature. River Ganga originates from the Gangotri glacier and is known as Bhagirathi till it merges with Alaknanda at Devaprayag. From Devprayag, it is known as Ganga. Gangotri along with Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath form the Chota Char Dham, an important pilgrimages for Hindus. Like the other Chota Char Dham sites, Gangotri temple also closes during winter. The idol is shifted to Mukhyamath temple in Mukhba village, 20 km downstream.
