Dongtai is a coastal county-level city under the administration of Yancheng, Jiangsu province, China. It has a population of roughly 1,170,000 estimated for 2007. Out of the total population, about 260,000 live in the Dongtai urban core, others are distributed in the 23 suburban towns and rural regions . With some Yellow Sea coast, it borders the prefecture-level cities of Nantong to the south and Taizhou to the west, and is the southernmost county-level division of Yancheng. Gaoyou Lake（Chinese: 高邮湖; pinyin: Gāoyòu Hú）is the sixth largest freshwater lake in China, it is located between Anhui Province and Jiangsu Province. In a sense Gaoyou Lake is a manmade lake, and its creation is part of a long story about flood control and hydraulic engineering in ancient China. Gaoyou Lake is now part of the Huai River system as the Huai River flows south through Gaoyou Lake on its way to the Yangtze River and the Pacific. It is about 39 km long and 30 km wide, covering approximately 674.7 km2.

Walking (with an occasional inexpensive taxi) is the only way to really see the city. Head down a street...it's safe...and if you get lost, hail a cab. Visit Dongtai Lu for fake antiques and fun collectibles and everyone makes their way to the famous Bund, sooner or later. Shanghai is a vibrant, happening (along with extremely noisy) city and a favorite of mine.

The Best Dumplings in Shanghai! Amazing Xiao Long Bao

When you go to Shanghai, xiaolongbao and its fried counterpart shengjianbao are a definite must-try. There are countless of dumpling restaurants scattered around the city that serve delicious soupy buns by the basket and crispy shengjianbao by the plate. We do the hard work and spend the day running around finding the best places to get your dumpling on. We hit up Jia Jia Tang Bao, home to arguably the best pork and crab xiaolongbao in Shanghai before trying an interesting combination of salted egg and pork xiaolongbao at Ling Long Fang. We check out the famous fried dumplings at Yang’s to taste their 3 different dumpling filling plate, we also visit Wan Shou Zhai, a very old school dumpling house that serves smaller xiaolongbao. If that wasn't all enough we finish up the night at the 24-hour hotspot Dong Tai Xiang for some late night juicy pork shengjianbao.
