Les Chapieux aid station, UTMB 2014
In a wee hours of the first night of #UTMB, Chris and I departed Chamonix for Les Chapieux, a remote aid station 50k into the race. It took us more than two hours to get there over 50 miles of winding, narrow and remote roads. It was well worth the journey though, because we were greeted by amazing stream of runners moving slowly through dark, rigid and muddy trails. We spend well over an hour there, soaking up the incredible energy of the event and wondering where Oza is. Only later we learned that we missed her by bare 6 minutes - a delightful news since it meant that she was OK and ahead of schedule.
When last runner went through the aid station, we packed our stuff and drove back over the same twisty road. Like racing, crewing in #UTMB is tough but rewards and lessons learned are priceless.
