My final clip (Pt 6) relating to my train trip to the far north of mainland Britain in Scotland.

I've called this one Viking Places, as the two venues I visit in this clip have historical links to the Viking/Norse past of this part of Scotland.

Getting off the train at Kildonan Station with my mountain bike to ride back to Forsinard

This video shows a few minutes of train journey between Kinbrace and Kildonan before showing me getting off the train with my mountain bike at the request stop at Kildonan on Scotland's Far North Line, having taken the train from Forsinard. From here I cycled the 15 miles or so back to the Forsinard Hotel, where I stayed. This was part of a mountain biking tour of northern Scotland in July 2012.
My gag about it's one where you're requested to stop at this time comes from the fact this was the least used station on the Far North Line in 2010-11 (142 people) and, when I told the train guard that I wanted to get off there, she laughed at me saying we hardly ever stop there. Ha ha...

Summer Saturday trains at Heckington June 1988

Trains at Heckington Lincolnshire on Saturday June 11th 1988.
First,a DMU forming the 0953 Skegness to Grantham calls at Heckington station followed by 20209 and 20190 with 1E48 1015 Skegness to Sheffield.
20195 and 20124 rush through Heckington with 1E82 0939 Derby to Skegness.
At Great Hale Drove level crossing,east of Heckington,31400 with 1D22 1022 Skegness to Leeds,a DMU on 0917 Derby to Skegness and finally 37062 with 1D17 0920 Sheffield to Skegness.
The village of Heckington is five miles east of Sleaford.

Deltic 55022 'Royal Scots Grey' on the Edinburgh South Suburban Line - Friday 17th June 2011

Preserved deltic locomotive number 55022 'Royal Scots Grey' took a trip over the Edinburgh South Suburban Line on the evening of Friday 17th June 2011, as part of a railtour organised by the Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS). The tour, 'The Far North Explorer' saw 55022 haul a train through the night over the Highland Main Line to Inverness and then over The Far North Line to Thurso and Wick in Caithness -where a bus tour took passengers to John O' Groats. The tour initially ran from Linlithgow, to the west of Edinburgh, and over the South Suburban Line allowing the loco to avoid running around at Edinburgh Waverley before the journey North. This windowhanging video shows the view from the train as it skirted the South of the city before reaching Edinburgh Waverley at 22:45. Curiously the camera the footage was filmed on performs very well in low light levels -so for a lot of the time the video is quite clear despite the fact that the journey was rather dark.
