The most exciting excursion out of Lucerne is to Mount Titlis where you can get a chance to frolic in the snow at the top of a mountain, guaranteed because it's a glacier, so there is snow all year round, throughout the summer throughout the winter and it just takes 2 hours to get from Lucerne up to the mountaintop. It is really a thrill to go up in the summer time and play because you wouldn't expect to run into snow on a warm summer day, but there it is, and it's very easy to get there. You take the scenic train from Lucerne on a one hour journey to Engelberg enjoying beautiful views of the mountains, farms and villages along the way.
Mount Titlis provides a spectacular view right into the heart of the Alps with the lofty peaks of the Jungfrau, Munch and Eiger visible in the distant Bernese Overland on a clear day, the Titlis viewing platform at 10,000 feet elevation has an elaborate multistoried restaurant, café and gift shop complex, along with ice cream snack bar and coffee bar out on the terrace in typical Swiss fashion. They have civilized this mountain and provided creature comforts while bringing you right into this wild natural environment.
Another activity while you're at the top of Mount Titlis is the glacier tunnel. It's an ice tunnel that they've carved right into the foundation of the glacier itself and there is colorful lighting inside. They have some ice sculptures inside and secure footing on a good rubber mat walkway and it's a lot of fun. You walk in the tunnel which goes around in a small loop circle. It just takes a few minutes but be sure to look for the ice grotto while you're up top.
One of the most exciting attractions is called the Cliff Walk. It's a pedestrian suspension bridge that gives you dramatic views looking all around, and even straight down 500 meters beneath your feet. It's claimed to be the highest suspension bridge in Europe and there is no extra charge for walking on it so by all means take advantage. It opened up at the end of 2012. It took them 5 months to build it and it has become a really popular attraction, sometimes called the world's scariest bridge.
For some more fun on the trip down you can get off the cable car at the next-to-last stop and rent a scooter to ride down the final mile. It is just a simple stand up foot scooter, you hold onto those handlebars with both hands and it's a wonderful ride that goes around zigzagging down on the road, which is at times a gravel road, a dirt road, but mostly it's a paved road. So it's really quite safe, quite fun. You’ve got good brakes with the scooter so you can slow down, you can stop, take a picture. Don't try and take any pictures while you're moving because you’ve got to keep both hands on the handlebars and wear that little protective helmet that comes with the rental. At the bottom you just leave the scooter in the pavilion and they will pick it up for you.
Susten Pass in Swiss Alps- Switzerland
Susten Pass (German: Sustenpass) (el. 2262 m.) is a mountain pass in the Swiss Alps. The pass road, built from 1938–1945, connects Innertkirchen in the canton of Bern with Wassen in the canton of Uri. A 300 metres long tunnel crosses the pass at 2,224 metres.
The pass is popular with tourists, especially for the views of the Stein Glacier on the south side.

Titlis Cliff Walk Europe's Highest Suspension Bridge in Switzerland

The Titlis Cliff Walk in Switzerland hangs 3,000 meters above sea level, offers mountainous views and sweaty palms
Europe's highest suspension bridge has opened to the public at Engelberg, Switzerland's popular ski destination.
Hanging approximately 3,000 meters above sea level, the bridge offers views that extend as far as 500 meters down into the abyss of the south wall on days with good visibility.
The Cliff Walk has usurped Salbit Bridge, also located in Switzerland, as Europe's highest suspension bridge.
The route to the new bridge is a superlative journey in itself, passing through a 140-meter underground tunnel.
Trift Bridge
Trift Bridge is the longest pedestrian-only suspension bridge in the Alps, totaling 170 metres (560 ft) in length and traversing a height of 100 metres (330 ft).
The bridge spans the lake, Triftsee, near Gadmen, Switzerland in an area that receives approximately 20,000 visitors per year to see the Trift Glacier. An earlier bridge was built in 2004. A replacement bridge was opened on June 12, 2009. It was completed in only six weeks.
Cliff Walk at Mt Titlis
The Cliff Walk at the top of Mt Titlis is the highest suspension bridge in Europe at a height of 3000m above sea level. It is 98m in length but only 0.91m wide. It is 460m above the glacier below.
Hasliberg Reuti Skyride, Switzerland
We were hoping to take the Cable Car to the top of the mountain but the very top was closed due to bad weather. Being expensive it wasn't worth paying the money and only going halfway so we chose the Skyride over the valley instead. This is the trip back up to the Reuti station. We'd already been down to the town in the valley we're just leaving on this one.

After taking a gondola up to the valley there is a ~ 1.5hr hike further up the valley to the suspension bridge.
Here you can cross the 170m bridge that hangs 100m above the river.
You have views of the Trift Glacier and the lake Triftsee.
