Gentofte Kommune is a municipality in the Capital Region of Denmark on the east coast of the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark. It covers an area of 25.54 km2 , and has a total population of 74,548 . Since 1993, its mayor has been Hans Toft, a member of the Conservative People's Party . The municipality is an amalgamation of three formerly independent towns, and several other local settlements, all close to one another. The site of its municipal council is in Charlottenlund.     Ryvangen Memorial Park is a memorial park in Ryvangen officially inaugurated on 5 May 1950 to commemorate fallen members of the Danish resistance to the German occupation of Denmark during World War II. The location in Ryvangen, which means rye field, was acquired in 1893 by the army for a barracks and exercise field.On 29 August 1943, when the Danish cooperation with Germany broke down the German occupying forces seized the army and naval facilities in all of Denmark including Ryvangen.While the German army used the barracks for themselves, part of the exercise field was used as an execution and burial site for members of the Danish resistance.The execution site consisted of three wooden poles to which the condemned were tied and executed by firing squad.
