The Pylos , [4] historically known previously with Venetian-Italian name as Navarino and Navarino , is a coastal town , which administratively belongs to the Municipality of Pylos - Nestor is located in the west of Messinia , while by 2010, the seat of of the same name .
It is known for its ancient, medieval and modern history. It should be noted, however, that the first and oldest town of Pylos, Ancient Pylos , does not coincide geographically with the present town, although the second one constitutes both the honorary and the substantial residential continuity of the former. Also, as far as ancient Pylos is concerned, it is, in part, identical with various archaeological remains of palaces and other administrative and residential infrastructures in various other archaeological sites in the region of Pylia,

Sparta - Greece HD Travel Channel
The region of Sparta has been inhabited already for 4000 years. King Otto of Greece founded modern Sparta in 1836. He was the first Greek king after independence. It is impossible to miss the monument of Leonidas, whom we will meet again at the Thermopylae. His heroic fight represents the military strength of ancient Sparta.
Sparta was the only Greek Polis that had no defensive walls until the Hellenistic period, as the city's troops were strong enough to fend off an attack.
Nearby a monument commemorates all the great Greek Olympic champions since the beginning of the Games.
On the former Acropolis, we see only a few remains of the ancient city like the ruins of a Stoa and a theater from the Roman Empire.
Sparta always polarized the people. Here one trained the young men to unconditional fight. On the other hand, one can find the first state order with separation of powers here; the great Rhetra, a document on Greek constitutional history that institutionalized political processes.
The Acropolis offers a beautiful view of the Byzantine fortified city of Mystras. The construction of Mystras led to the desolation of ancient Sparta.

1836 gründete König Otto I. das moderne Sparta.

Visiting Lesvos Island in Greece
In this week's episode we're on one of Greece's lesser visited islands, Lesvos. Our favourite town on the island was Petra, but there are lots of hidden villages, bays and beaches to explore.
Lesvos has recently seen tourism numbers plummet due to negative media coverage regarding refugees in Lesvos, but in our experience the island felt safe and there were plenty of visitors enjoying a less hectic Lesvos Island.
From the church of Panagia Glykofilousa to the Eftalou Hot Springs, there are plenty of unique sights for tourists to see in Lesvos. Molyvos Village and Molyvos castle were breathtaking, as is Mytilini and Mytilini castle, while Agiasos Town is famous for pottery.
What's not to love about Lesvos?
