Cruise the Panama Canal aboard our privately chartered small ship
As Panama celebrates the 100th anniversary of the opening of its canal in 2014, there's no better time to celebrate one of mankind's most astounding achievements, during a cruise that champions a culmination of toil, diplomacy, and engineering prowess unmatched in the modern world. On our Panama Canal cruise, you'll take three nights to complete a full daylight transit of this man-made marvel aboard Grand Circle's privately chartered, 24-passenger catamaran, the M/S Discovery. The epic tale of the construction of the Panama Canal will unfold before you as you cross the canal—and you may glimpse evidence of the future, as construction is completed on a new set of locks that will expand the canal for the first time. Then, your land explorations will introduce you to Panama's indigenous people, take you into the country's spectacular rain forests, and on a fascinating visit to a butterfly garden—and more. From the bustling activity of the Canal Zone and the abundance of wildlife in the rain forest to the quiet beauty of the coasts, Panama beckons. Plus, you can enhance your Small Ship Cruise Tour with our Bocas Del Toro, Panama: Wild Archipelago and Colonial Cartagena, Colombia: The Emerald of the Caribbean optional extensions.

Lake Gatun Panama/ Gamboa Rainforest Boat Tour
The highlight of our trip down Lake Gatun was when the Geoffroy's Tamarin Monkeys boarded our boat. The lake is a part of the Panama Canal and was once the largest manmade lake in the world. While touring Lake Gatun we saw many large and small vessels. The surrounding rainforest is theming with wild life such as , crocodiles, approx. 5 species of monkeys, sloths, birds, insects, reptiles etc.

Discover Panama City - The Gateway to Central America | 90+ Countries With 3 Kids
Welcome to Panama City, the capital and largest city of Panama!
If you google Panama, one of the first things that will appear in your search will probably be the famous Panama Canal. That is no surprise, as it is the biggest tourist attraction in this Central American country.
Why is this 80-kilometer long canal so amazing you ask? Well, it is a shipping shortcut that connects the Atlantic and Pacific ocean, significantly shortening all water travels.
Even though the idea of such canal dates back to 1513, the construction didn’t start until the late nineteenth century. The project was delegated to French engineers, but it had to be terminated due to skyrocketing costs, harsh conditions and heavy personnel losses caused by tropical diseases.
The project was restarted once Panama gained independence from Colombia and signed a ratified agreement with the USA. On 1 April 1914, the construction was officially completed, but the opening for commercial traffic was postponed for 15 August 1914 due to the outbreak of World War I.
Politically, the Panama Canal remained a part of the US territory of until 1977, when the process of transferring territorial control to Panama officially began. It was finally completed on 31 December 1999.
Today, this technological marvel operates around-the-clock, with some 40 vessels passing through each day. The system consists of three sets of locks, which raise ships from sea level to the same height of the Gatun Lake. The canal allows shippers of commercial goods to save both time and money, which results in lower consumer prices for everyone.

Okay so in this vlog I will take you guys with me to the Agua Clara Visitor Center in Colón, #Panamá. This a really nice stop to make if you're visiting #Colón (Atlantic side of Panama). Especially if you're doing a day to Colón. Make sure you add this to your itinerary!
This is probably the best place to come see how the #PanamaCanal works and to see how the new Agua Clara Locks work too. The observation deck is really nice, plenty of space and the best of all it's not crowded. This center offers some stunning panoramic view of the Lake #Gatun and the locks. You'll have the opportunity to watch some of the world's biggest ships transit the canal.
Make sure you check my blog, I'll have some photos posted on there soon:
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Panama Canal Cruise - Day 6 Panama
Todays epic Panama Canal cruise vlog is sponsored by:
Hey Cruisers! It's day six of our Caribbean Princess Panama Canal cruise, and I am up bright and early to catch our first pass through the Panama Canal locks. We found out early on that this was a really long and slow process. So instead of having hours of probably boring footage we have opted to use time-lapse for the majority of our passage through the canal. Sadly, the video quality does suffer a bit in that the results are quite shaky, but we couldn't think of a better way to show the trip through the locks. I'll give you a bit of information about the Panama Canal, and how the Panama Canal locks work as we show the time lapse footage. After we make our fist pass through the locks we will spend some time in Gatun lake. There are some great photo opportunities here, and since quite a few people have booked excursions, it's a great time to explore the ship. I took this opportunity to find a better viewing area for our trip back through the locks. Through out our Caribbean Princess cruise we had been wanting to try the Ernesto Burger at the new Salty Dog restaurant, but we found out that it takes 25 minutes or more to prepare the burger. Now that the ship is half empty, and we've got lots of time, we'll head over to the Salty Dog and do a little burger research. You've got to see this burger to believe it! We round out this vlog with a little footage of an amazing, but limited port where we will pick up the cruise passengers that had booked excursions. Thanks for watching our Panama Canal cruise video. Be sure to check back soon. We'll be post video from our stop in beautiful Limon soon.
