Superb Model Railway made by French Railroad Enthusiasts
Today, we are going to make a journey to France. At the great model railway exhibition in Leipzig, Germany, the French model railroad club “Amis du Rail 67” presented its beautiful layout built in HO scale. On the modular railway layout, there are one large railway line in HO scale, two railway lines in narrow gauge, and a miniature street for vehicles of the famous Faller Car system. The whole display takes approximately 15 meters in length and 5 meters in width.
Pilentum was absolutely fascinated by the good work, how buildings and trees and the landscape were modeled. Furthermore, the background consists of a beautiful painting. I guess, the background image was painted by Patrice Hamm, a famous artist in railway modelling. The model railroading club and its members created a very special atmosphere: The landscape is not overcrowded with gimmicks. It is a simple, but very beautiful landscape including a small town with half-timbered buildings.
But the most important thing, of course, is the rail transport traffic. On the main line of the railway, we can discover a lot of the finest steam locomotives and steam trains used by the French State Railway. There are also some diesel locomotives and, for example, the famous French railcar. Therefore, there is no catenary, because the French model railroaders do not prefer high-speed trains, only steam trains and freight trains.
On the two narrow-gauge lines some ugly model trains running on two independent loops. Mostly, there are railcars for passenger traffic running between the small villages. Finally, there is also a miniature car system. There are trucks and buses driving behind the railway lines.
Superb Forest Model Railway and Sawmill in Narrow Gauge HO scale by Laurent Vandermotte
It is probably very difficult for a model railroader to build a forest railway, forest tram, timber line, logging railway or logging railroad. In this context, the biggest challenge may be the realistic modelling of the trees, bushes and grasses. Laurent Vandermotte from Belgium has taken up this challenge: At the great model railway exhibition “Modelspoor Expo” he presented his model train diorama depicting a sawmill or lumber mill and a little freight train running on narrow gauges. While watching this model railroad display we recognize, the small steam train is not the focus. On a surface of about 1.0 meter in width and about 0.5 meters in depth there are loving details, for example, the lumberjack, beavers in the river or the night simulation.
The miniature world of Venice: A masterpiece of modelling in HO scale without model trains
As you know, there is the great “Miniature Wonderland”, the world’s largest permanent model railway exhibition, in Germany. Two years ago, the model builders finished the Italian section with beautiful coast lines, with the central station of the capital Rome and much more. In February 2018 - after more than a year of construction work - the new section of Venice was opened.
This masterpiece of modelling in HO scale completes the Italy theme inside the “Miniature Wonderland”, although there are no model trains and no model railway. The new Venice section with a size of only nine square meters is one of the smallest sections of the “Miniature Wonderland”. More than 35,000 man hours have been dedicated to create this Italian world with its winding streets, waterways, gondolas and palaces that were finished with greater precision than ever before.
Approximately 60 model builders have been involved in modelling the new Venice section. They have made more than 280 houses and bridges by hand, have installed 2,800 LED, laid more than 5,000 meters of cable and have made 160 individual street lights.
At a square meter price of more than 100,000 Euros, this diorama of Venice didn't come cheap at all. But every corner of miniature Venice is the result of so much devotion, for example, the 450 gondolas of Venice, each of them were carefully hand crafted and decorated. The famous tourism sights of Venice - the “Canale Grande”, the “Piazza San Marco”, the “Rialto Bridge” and the many water taxi gondolas - can be discovered in 1/87 scale.
