Le Lavandou is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. It derives its name either from the flower lavender (lavanda in Provençal) that is prevalent in the area, or more prosaically from the local form of the Occitan name for lavoir, lavandor (for lavador, a public place for washing clothes).
The (then) village is where the famous popular song A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square was written in the summer of 1939. The words were by Eric Maschwitz and the music by Manning Sherwin, with its title ‘stolen’ from a story by Michael Arlen. The song had its first performance in a local bar, where the melody was played on piano by Manning Sherwin with the help of the resident saxophonist. Maschwitz sang the words while holding a glass of wine, but nobody seemed impressed.
In the spring of 2002, an attempt was made to find the bar where this classic song was first performed with the view to having a blue plaque set up. With the help of the local tourist office, elderly residents were questioned, but it proved impossible to establish the venue.
In September 2000, the mayor passed an unusual bylaw making it illegal to die in the town. The mayor described his own bylaw as absurd ... to counter an absurd situation; the absurd situation was that with the town's cemetery already full, a court in Nice had denied permission for a new cemetery because it would mar the beauty of the selected site.

Het allermooiste plekje in Frankrijk, een geweldige vakantiebestemming aan de Cote D'azur in een streek genaamd Le Lavandou waar je nog echt kunt genieten van rust en mooie natuur in een echte franse omgeving. Hier kom je weinig Nederlanders tegen en waan je je echt in het buitenland en dus echt op vakantie. Frankrijk is een mooi land en af en toe tref je hele bijzondere plekjes zoals dit. Het appartementen complex Les Floralies heeft een fantastisch uitzicht over de middellandse zee en op je eigen terras kun je dan ook heerlijk genieten van een lekker drankje. Even zwemmen in de infinity pool is ook echt een aanrader en lekker om af te koelen.
Secret places in France. Best kept secret place for a holiday in France. What a great place in France, what a great atmosphere, what a great nature and wildlife, nice buildings and for sure nice sunny days. This nice complex in st. Clair in the Le Lavandou region near st. Tropez in the cote d'azur is a place everybody has to visit. This is a very quit and calm place where you don't get the feeling that there is much tourism and you can quietly enjoy your holiday with a great sea view. Les Floralies is situated in a small place called st clair and has great sea view, infinity pool and spacious apartments. Le Lavandou is nice and quit and gives you the holiday that you deserve. In the area there are plenty of nice places to visit like bormes les mimosas. The cote d'azur is the bomb:)

The French Riviera (known in French as the Côte d'Azur) is the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France. There is no official boundary, but it is usually considered to extend from Cassis or Toulon on the west to the France–Italy border in the east, where the Italian Riviera joins. The coast is entirely within the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) region of France. The principality of Monaco is a semi-enclave within the region, surrounded on three sides by France and fronting the Mediterranean.
This coastline was one of the first modern resort areas. It began as a winter health resort for the British upper class at the end of the 18th century. With the arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century, it became the playground and vacation spot of British, Russian, and other aristocrats, such as Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, when he was Prince of Wales. In the summer, it also played home to many members of the Rothschild family. In the first half of the 20th century, it was frequented by artists and writers, including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Edith Wharton, Somerset Maugham, and Aldous Huxley, as well as wealthy Americans and Europeans. After World War II, it became a popular tourist destination and convention site. Many celebrities, such as Elton John and Brigitte Bardot, have homes in the region. Officially, the French Riviera is home to 163 nationalities with 83,962 foreign residents, although estimates of the number of non-French nationals living in the area are often much higher.
Its largest city is Nice, which has a population of 347,060 (2006). The city is the center of a communauté urbaine – Nice-Côte d'Azur – bringing together 24 communes and more than 500,000 inhabitants and 933,080 in the urban area. Nice is home to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, France's third-busiest airport (after Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport and Paris-Orly), which is on an area of partially reclaimed coastal land at the western end of the Promenade des Anglais. A second airport at Mandelieu was once the region's commercial airport, but is now mainly used by private and business aircraft. The A8 autoroute runs through the region, as does the old main road generally known as the Route nationale 7 (officially now the DN7 in the Var and the D6007 in the Alpes-Maritimes). High-speed trains serve the coastal region and inland to Grasse, with the TGV Sud-Est service reaching Nice-Ville station in five and a half hours from Paris.
The French Riviera has a total population of more than two million. It contains the seaside resorts of Cap-d'Ail, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Antibes, Juan-les-Pins, Cannes, Saint-Raphaël, Fréjus, Sainte-Maxime and Saint-Tropez. It is also home to a high-tech and science park (French: technopole) at Sophia-Antipolis (north of Antibes), and a research and technology center at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis. The region has 35,000 students, of whom 25 percent are working toward a doctorate.
The French Riviera is a major yachting and cruising area with several marinas along its coast. According to the Côte d'Azur Economic Development Agency, each year the Riviera hosts 50 percent of the world's superyacht fleet, with 90 percent of all superyachts visiting the region's coast at least once in their lifetime. As a tourist centre, French Riviera benefits from 310 to 330 days of sunshine per year, 115 kilometres (71 miles) of coastline and beaches, 18 golf courses, 14 ski resorts and 3,000 restaurants.

This is a virtual tour along French Atlantic Coast, where sixteen cities and landscapes are shown in order to encourage people to change the virtual journey into a real one.
Virtual issue allows us to cover a fairly wide itinerary, which would be extremely hard if the tour was completely done. This general view along French Coast flanked by Atlantic Sea is a guide about the multiple choices that this region offer according with landscapes, climatology, environment, gastronomy and culture.
Along the journey, six French Regions washed by Atlantic Ocean would be point out: Aquitaine, Charente Maritime, Pays de Loire, Bretagne, Normandie and Picardie, off which are exhibited 16 cities or places, furthermore, landscapes and spots are demonstrated from each city, which are interesting enough for justifying a visit.

Bandol is a popular coastal town and wine growing region in the western part of the Cote d'Azur and to the west of Toulon. As a tourist destination, Bandol is not a newcomer to the scene: Thomas Mann, Aldous Huxley, Marcel Pagnol, and D.H. Lawrence all spent time here. Bandol is many things to many people.To boating enthusiasts it is a vibrant harbour accommodating about 1500 boats of all sizes, to land-based vacationers Bandol is a beach town and buzzing hub of activity.
Your visit to Bandol will start with a promenade around the harbour, an attractive palm-tree lined walk backed by some lovely pastel painted houses. Around the port in Bandol there are also several bars and restaurants as well as a casino. At the west of the harbour you can also visit the Bandol tourist office and see the town kiosk.
The centre of the traditional village of Bandol is around a square called the Place de l'Europe immediately behind the promenade. This square is actually a series of three squares separated by raised terraces where a large fountain, shady plane trees and lively cafes combine with the view across the harbour to make a very attractive traditional Provencal square.
At the top of the square is one of the most important historic monuments in Bandol, the Church Saint-Francois de Sales. The streets around the square are also interesting to explore with a surprise around every corner for example an ancient fountain, a tiny ancient house and flower boxes or a grand Belle Epoque villa.
Beach enthusiasts will be pleased to know there is a wide choice of beaches in Bandol, including several sandy beaches in the town itself as well as smaller rocky bays and creeks, mostly reached by following the coast path a short distance. The sandy beaches in the centre of Bandol are the most popular and can become quite crowded in the summer. The Anse de Renécros is a lovely circular beach that is just west of the centre and almost completely enclosed, so waves are quite calm.
Most of the sandy beaches are east of the centre and include Plage Centrale, Plage du Casino and Plage du Grand Vallat while the smaller rocky beaches are to the west - favourites include the Plage Eden Roc, Plage l'Anglais and the Plage des Engraviers. We especially liked the position and view from the Plage l'Anglaise but it did involve a walk to reach the beach from Plage Capelan. A popular trip from Bandol is to visit the island of Bendor, just a short distance away (about 7 minutes by boat) and which also has beaches and restaurants, a nice promenade around the island and a wine museum.
Beach lovers can enjoy a leisurely change of scenery from day-to-day between the busy beaches of Bandol and those of Sanary-sur-Mer slightly to the east, and more down-to-earth Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer slightly to the west. There are many small villages in the Bandol area that are worthy of a look around including Cadière and Castellet to the north of here. A visit to Bandol should also include a visit to the city of Toulon where Jacques Cousteau set out on a lifelong exploration of the sea and where the military traditions of the sea are everywhere evident. Visitors arriving by boat are within a close sail of the magnificent white chalk calanques along the coastline between here and the port of Marseille some fifty kilometers to the west.
