Northeast Brazil (Part 2): Morro Branco Beach, Jericoacoara, & Lençóis Maranhenses National Park
This is the last Episode of our adventures in Brazil. This week, we explore the most remote corners of Brazil’s Northeast.
We kick off the week by exploring remote beaches of Morro Branco, and Canoa Quebrada, then head further north for a few days in the sandy fishing village turned hippy mecca town of Jericoacoara, and finish the trip swimming in the lagoons and enjoying the sandy dunes at the incredible Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.

The photos that we took on these tours in the North east of Brazil were some of the most impressive from our Latin American journeys. The sites were unbelievable and I can't recommend our guides enough.

Our tours left from Barreirinhas and this area is super safe unlike most places in Brazil. To get to this destination you must get a plain to Sao luis and then take a 5 hour bus which is easy to find and leaves every hour from the bus terminal if you want to be economical. Alternatively, you can book a private transfer which will cost considerably more. I was told about 300 reales, which is in the region of £75 at the current exchange.

Dunes & LAGOONS in Lencois Maranhenses: exotic travel in Brazil
Even though the tourism industry never cease to amaze anxious travelers with new unusual, picturesque or even extreme places to visit, the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park would definitely attract the attention of even the most experienced travelers.
At a first glance the alien-like landscape of sand dunes and crystal clear lagoons makes us wonder if this place is real (in modern digital era it is a common thing now) but due to a rare natural phenomenon the rain water collects in the valleys between sand dunes.
As the result, tourists are treated to a unique exhibition – blue and green, the water in which is even warm to take a plunge during a hot day.
Experts say that the formation of such unusual landscape of the The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park took hundreds if not thousands of years and the water lagoons even serve as the habitat for a considerable variety of fish species.

The Best of Brazil Uncovered | Lencois Maranhenses and Cabure with AVA TOURISM
Lencois Maranhenses took my breath away in terms of landscapes. It would be hard to find somewhere more beautiful and despite the many safety issues, Barreirinhas is actually very safe. More so than a lot of places in Europe in my opinion. We walked home regularly in the evening with no care in the world.
The tours for here are also child friendly and family friendly. The tours are almost all available for children and it is no incredible necessary to book in advance. However, if you prefer to have exactly what you want, when you want it, then, here are our tour agency's contact information.

The only down side to this area is the difficulty to find English speakers, but this company does speak English so you are already ahead.
