Leppävirta is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 9,673 and covers an area of 1,519.64 square kilometres of which 383.62 km2 is water. The population density is 8.51 inhabitants per square kilometre . Neighbour municipalities are Heinävesi, Joroinen, Kuopio, Pieksämäki, Suonenjoki, Tuusniemi and Varkaus. The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

4. Puijo Tower Kuopio
The Puijo tower is an observation tower at the top of Puijo hill in Kuopio, Eastern Finland. Opened in 1963, the tower is 75 metres tall and has a revolving restaurant with 100 seats. It was the first tower with a revolving restaurant in the Nordic countries. The restaurant was an inspiration to Erkki Lindfors, the mayor of Tampere, who got the idea to build a similar one in his home town, resulting in the Näsinneula tower, which opened in 1971. The current Puijo tower has been visited by over 5.5 million tourists. The current tower is the third overall. When it was completed in 1963 the second one, built in 1906, was dismantled. The first tower was built in 1856. On the western side of the tower there are three ski jumping hills.

6. Linnansaari National Park Rantasalmi
Linnansaari National Park is a national park in the Southern Savonia and Northern Savonia regions of Finland. It lies in the middle of the lake Haukivesi, a part of greater Saimaa. The National Park was established to conserve the valuable natural features of the Finnish lakeland. On the main island there's an old croft. Slash-and-burn agriculture is still practised on its fields to conserve the old cultural landscape and the associated plant and animal species. A large part of the island is natural-state coniferous forest, with some herb-rich parts. The critically endangered Saimaa Ringed Seal inhabits the park.

New Valamo or New Valaam is an Orthodox monastery in Heinävesi, Finland. The monastery was established in its present location in 1940. However, the tradition of the Valamo monastery dates back to 1717. The monastery was then originally established on Valaam which is an archipelago in the northern portion of Lake Ladoga, lying within the Republic of Karelia in the Russian Federation. The New Valamo Monastery is nowadays an active centre of the Orthodox religious life and culture in Finland. The monastery welcomes visitors throughout the year. The peaceful atmosphere of the monastery and close proximity to nature offer the hurried people in the busy world of today a rare opportunity to relax − far from the bustle and noise of everyday life.

Some say the road from Karigasniemi to Utsjoki is the most beautiful road in Finland. We decided to find out. This also includes the part from Utsjoki to Nuorgam, which is the northernmost point in the European Union. Total trip time was about 2 hours, and the views are better experienced in person :)

Highest location in Kuopio, Finland

Oinosenmäki (240 m) is the highest natural location in Kuopio. Puijo (232 m) is a close second and it has the famous Puijo Tower which climbs way over the heights of Oinosenmäki's radar tower & its hill combined.

The timelapse was shot with Canon 600D & 8 mm Samyang Fisheye with 10 s intervals + 3 HDR exposures / shot by Magic Lantern's intervalometer & bracketing. The scenery was shot with iPhone 4S.

Vanhemman malliinen maasto-GPS valittu usein sateliittiyhteyden katkeamisesta. Puhelimen GPS:n akku ei kestä koko päivän vaellusta.

Kamera. Nikon Coolpix L25 (kamera maksoi 49.95 euroa - oli ainoa kamera mukana matkalla - siksi, että jos kamera olisi hajonnut ei menetys olisi ollut suuri - ja kamera käyttää AA-paristoja - luonnollisesti järkkärillä saisi parempia kuvia....) .

Ruunaa hiking (recreation) area, Lieksa, Finland. Part of trail Koskikierros (Rapids around). Neitikoski-Haapavitja/Paasikoski. This place is about 5 km. from the Russian border. Therea are lots of wild animals (wolf, bear etc) living in the area but they avoid people.
