Varkaus is a Middle-Savonian industrial town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 20,956 and covers an area of 524.48 square kilometres of which 138.45 km2 is water. The population density is 54.28 inhabitants per square kilometre . The municipality is unilingually Finnish. Oddly enough, 'Varkaus' translates to 'theft', even though it is not the reason for giving that name to the city. RVing in Finland: Road Trip to the Arctic Circle and Beyond - Traveling Robert

We depart from Helsinki aboard our Sunlight T69L. We stop by the historic city of Porvoo, visit a viewer nearby. Then continue to Varkaus to visit our host Petteri, and his wife. We also get to chat with his friend and partner Tomi. From there is it all the way north into the Lapland, past the Arctic Circle, eventually into Norway. We get to visit Santa Claus Village near Rovaniemi, right at the Arctic Circle and the town on Inari.
