The picturesque Silent Valley National Park is perhaps one of Kerala's best kept secret. It is one of the largest treks of evergreen rainforests of the subcontinent. This park is among the few places in the world where the Cobra plant, with its distinguished forked leaves resembling a snake, is found. The rich fauna, endless green cover and the lack of crowds make this park truly unique.

7 Wonders Of India: Silent Valley National Park
Located in Palakkad district, Kerala, the Silent Valley National Park is home to the largest population of Lion-tailed Macaque. Ceylon Frog Moth, Great Indian Hornbill, the Nilgiri Laughing Thrush can be also found here. The river Kunthi that passes through, never turns brown and is always crystal clear.

In the north-eastern corner of Palakkad lies the famed Silent Valley. The Silent Valley is spread over 237 square kilometres and happens to be among the oldest stretches of rainforests in the world. It is possibly the only region in the country with a relatively undisturbed evolutionary history of at least 50 million years.
The Mahabharata tells the story of the Pandavas losing a game of dice, and being sent into exile for 13 years. Legend has it that the Pandavas had spent the better part of these years in the Silent Valley.
In 1984, the Silent Valley was declared a national park.
Mannarkkad is the nearest town from the Silent Valley. About 22 kilometres from Mannarkkad is Mukkali — the starting point for a trip to the Silent Valley. Buses ply every hour between Mannarkkad and Mukkali. The Silent Valley is divided into four parts of which only Sairandhri is open to visitors. From Mukkali, you need to hire a jeep to get to Sairandhri. The breathtaking journey from Mukkali to Sairandhri takes about an hour. Entry to the Silent Valley National Park is permitted from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm only. Visitors need to leave by 5.00 pm.
The denizens of the Silent Valley National Park include the lion-tailed macaque (one of the most endangered primates of the country), the Nilgiri Tahr, barking deer, elephant, tiger and over a 100 species of birds.
The 100 feet watch tower at Sairandhri gives the visitor a bird's eye view of the Silent Valley.
Setting foot in the Silent Valley can be a stepping stone to a higher plane of understanding. The forest department of Kerala regularly conducts nature camps inside the Silent Valley National Park for school children.

Nelliampathy is surrounded by tea and coffee plantations. The village has its own gram panchayat and forms a part of the Chittur taluk. Pothundi Dam, which was constructed in the 19th century, is the entrance to Nelliyampathy.Nelliyampathy Hills in Palakkad, Kerala, India. A viewpoint called Seethargund is situated 8 km away from Nelliyampathy. Seethargund, according to beliefs is the place where Lord Rama, Laxmana and Seetha rested during their exile..Lying in the lap of Western Ghats, Nelliyampathy Hills are decorated with a wonderful sight of tea, coffee, cardamom and Orange plantation. We explored Nelliyampathy Hills and stayed at Leaf and Roots which is bungalow in the forest. Places to visit in Nelliampathy are Pothundy dam, Kesavanpara, Seetharkund, Suicide point, Karappara Hanging bridge. Standing loftily at an elevation varying from 467 m to 1572 m above the sea level, the hill provides the visitors with a chance for trekking as well as a breath taking view of Palakkad.

പ്രകൃതിയിലെ സുന്ദരമായ ഒരു ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയാണ് കണ്ടലുകൾ. കണ്ടൽ വനങ്ങൾ എന്ന് കേൾക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്നെ മനസ്സിൽ വരുന്ന പേരാണ് കല്ലേൽ പുക്കുടന്റേത്. കണ്ടൽ വനങ്ങളുടെ സംരക്ഷണത്തിനു വേണ്ടി അവസാനകാലം വരെ പോരാടിയ പ്രകൃതിസ്നേഹി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനഫലമായി തന്നെ ഇന്ന് കേരളത്തിൽ ഒരു പാട് കണ്ടൽ വനങ്ങൾ സംരക്ഷിച്ചു വരുന്നു. അതിൽ കൂടുതലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജില്ലയിൽ തന്നെ. എന്നാൽ മലപ്പുറം കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലകളുടെ സംയുക്ത പ്രദേശമായ കടലുണ്ടിയിലും കണ്ടൽ വനങ്ങൾ സംരക്ഷിച്ചു പോരുന്നുണ്ട്. കടലുണ്ടിയിൽ കണ്ടൽകാടുകൾക്കുള്ളിൽ ഒരു പക്ഷിസങ്കേതവും സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു. കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം കടലുണ്ടിയിലെ ഈ കണ്ടൽ വനങ്ങളിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിക്കാനൊരു അവസരം വന്നു ചേർന്നു. വിവിത തരം കണ്ടലുകളെ പരിചയപ്പെട്ടു. കടലുണ്ടിയിലെ റിവർ ടൂറിസമാണ് അങ്ങനെയൊരു അവസരം ഒരുക്കി തന്നത്. നന്ദി
