Sergiyev Posad (Russian: Сергиев Посад; IPA: [ˈsʲɛrgʲɪɪf pɐˈsat]) is a city and the administrative center of Sergiyevo-Posadsky District in Moscow Oblast, Russia.
Sergiyev Posad grew in the 15th century around one of the greatest of Russian monasteries, the Trinity Lavra established by St. Sergius of Radonezh, still one of the largest monasteries in Russia. Town status was granted to Sergiyev Posad in 1742. The town's name, alluding to St. Sergius, has strong religious connotations. Soviet authorities changed it first to just Sergiyev in 1919, and then to Zagorsk in 1930, in memory of the revolutionary Vladimir Mikhailovich Zagorsky.
The original name was restored in 1991.

Moscow is the northernmost and coldest megacity and metropolis on Earth, the most populous city in Europe, and the 8th largest city proper in the world, as well as the largest amongst high income economies. It is home to the Ostankino Tower, the tallest free standing structure in Europe; Mercury City Tower, the tallest skyscraper in Europe and the Moscow International Business Center. It is the largest city in Russia, with a population of 12,111,194 people (2014).By its territorial expansion on 1 July 2012 southwest into the Moscow Oblast, the capital increased its area 2.5 times; from about 1,000 square kilometers (390 sq mi) up to 2,511 square kilometers (970 sq mi), and gained an additional population of 233,000 people.
Moscow is situated on the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia making it the world's most populated inland city. The city is well known for its unique architecture which consists of many different historic buildings such as Saint Basil's Cathedral with its brightly colored domes. With over 40 percent of its territory covered by greenery, it is one of the greenest capitals and major cities in Europe and the world, having the largest forest in an urban area within its borders—more than any other major city—even before its expansion in 2012. In the course of its history the city has served as the capital of a progression of states, from the medieval Grand Duchy of Moscow and the subsequent Tsardom of Russia to the Soviet Union. Moscow is considered the center of Russian culture, having served as the home of prestigious Russian artists, scientists and sports figures during the course of its history and because of the presence of many different museums, academic and political institutions and theaters. Moscow is also the seat of power of the Government of Russia, being the site of the Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is today the residence of the Russian president. The Moscow Kremlin and the Red Square are also one of several World Heritage Sites in the city. Both chambers of the Russian parliament (the State Duma and the Federation Council) also sit in the city.
The city is served by an extensive transit network, which includes four international airports, nine railway terminals, numerous trams, a monorail system and one of the deepest underground metro systems in the world, the Moscow Metro, the fourth-largest in the world and largest outside of Asia in terms of passenger numbers. It is recognized as one of the city's landmarks due to the rich and varied architecture of its 194 stations.

Golden Ring is a set of ancient Russian cities north-east of Moscow which form a circle if you look at them on the map. In this video I would like to tell you about the golden Ring of Russia. I think that many of you have heard this name, but not many people know what it means. And some practical info for tourists:)
To get to Sergiev Posad by train: Trains start almost every 30 minutes from Moscow's Yaroslavskiy Rail Terminal (Ярославский вокзал) to Sergiev Posad. Yaroslavskiy Rail Terminal is near metro station Komsomolskaya (Комсомольская) (red line).

A one-way ticket to Sergiev Posad is 164 rubles.
If to go by bus - Bus 388 is available at VDNKh (ВДНХ) every 15 minutes. However, be aware of jams:)
To get to Sergiev Posad by car take Yaroslavskoye highway - distance is 70km (40 miles).
Golden Ring is a set of ancient Russian cities north-east of Moscow which form a circle if you look at them on the map. The author of the term Golden Ring is Yuri Bychkov. He was a soviet journalist and a writer. And the idea of the circular route belongs to him. In the middle of the last century (to be more particular in 1967) he published in the newspaper Soviet Culture a few articles on the ancient cities under the general heading of Golden Ring. Later this name was given to the now world-famous tourist route.
The 'classical' route starts from Moscow goes through Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, Rostov Velikiy, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Suzdal and Vladimir. All the cities and towns are located relatively close to each other, so from one place you can reach to another and make a circle. So you start from Moscow and come back to Moscow.
Moscow and St Petersburg are, of course, the main attractions in Russia, but if you really want to see a true Russian life and how the most of country lives, make an effort to travel to at least couple of the cities in the Golden Ring. You can see old architecture and churches which were built prior to Mongol rule.
If you only have 1 day off, then I suggest you go to Sergiev Posad. If you have a few free days then I would recommend you to go to Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, Vladimir, and Suzdal'

In this video you will see a small town - Istra (Истра). There is a beautiful monastery there - New Jerusalem Monastery (Новоиерусалимский монастырь) . Don’t forget to go inside the church. The monastery’s predominate style changed to the Baroque style when it was renovated.

Sergiev Posad is one of the cities of Golden Ring of Russia.
Golden Ring is a touristic route which include ancient towns and unique monuments.
The population of the town is more than 103 444.
1)The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra

In 1993, the Trinity Lavra was inscribed on the UN World Heritage List.
This is the most popular place in Sergiev Posad.
The Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is the most important Russian monastery and the spiritual centre of the Russian Orthodox Church. The monastery was founded in 1337 by one of the Russian saints, we saw his monument in the beginning, Sergius of Radonezh.
In 17 th century the Lavra was attacked by Poles and Lithuanian, by Germans and even by Russians in Soviet time

The interior walls were painted by Andrei Rublev. There are relics of Sergius of Radonezh.
