Is Bike Commuting Safe On City Roads? (Cycling in Japan)
I recently started a new job here in Japan and decided that I would commute to work by bike everyday. It's 20km each way, so 40km a day, 200km a week, and 800km a month. I got a lot of requests to show a bike commute route on the city roads in Japan, so today I tried a new route through the city and talk about is it safe to bike commute on city roads.
The river path is much safer and quieter since I don't have to deal with cars, but I found that cycling through the busy city roads was also a nice change of pace, as I got to see many other unique things and lots more people with their commute routines.
Which do you think is better, commuting on the city roads, or taking the river cycling path? What do you think of the busy Japanese roads?

GIANT Love in Nagoya | Bike Shops in Japan #03 | ジャイアントストア名古屋
In today's episode of Bike Shops of Japan, we'll be visiting the GIANT Bikes Store of Nagoya, located on the East side of the city in Nagakute (which just so happens to be close to where we live).
There are a lot of new 2019 models on display, mostly road bikes including Propel, TCR, as well as a bunch of other bicycles, including mountain bikes, kids bikes, cross bikes, women's liv bikes, accessories and more.
My wife Thuong once again ran into her dream road bike, the GIANT TCR Sunweb team edition.. Unfortunately, we're not in any position to buy any new bikes at the moment..
This is a great bike shop conveniently located along the Higashiyama-doori (green road) and on your way out towards the mountains from the city.
I hope you guys enjoy these bike shops in Japan tour videos. Be sure to leave your comments down below of other bike shops you'd like us to visit.

11.20.10: Nagoya's Tokugawa-en
11.20.10: A visit to the Tokugawa Gardens (parts of which were originally constructed in 1695) connected to the Tokugawa Art Museum near Ozone in Nagoya. We were a little early to see the full-blown kouyou (fall leaves), but the garden was spectacular nonetheless. Sorry I sound exhausted.

Walking through Kawasaki City at night. I found this area that reminded me of San Antonio at night. I hope you enjoy it!
Tokyo Food | Japanese Breakfast at a Denny's!
[ NO TALKING. JUST FOOD. ]
Denny's diner probably isn't the first thing that would come to mind when thinking of good restaurants, but Denny's in Japan in a whole different experience. Like so many western fast food joints imported to Japan, a much higher emphasis is placed on presentation and the apparent quality of the meals. And the menu is completely different! During breakfast hours you can get some simple Japanese-style meals of grilled salmon, rice and miso soup. During lunch and dinner they have Japanese-style western food staples such as omurice, curry, mentaiko pasta, and even more traditional meals like tempura and sukiyaki. For dessert, you can get fluffy soufflé pancakes topped in ice cream, anmitsu, and macha tiramisu.
In this video I try out a western breakfast of eggs, sausage and bacon, and a Japanese breakfast of grilled salmon, rice, miso soup and tofu. Each set cost around $6 US and included unlimited use of the drink bar.
Give Denny's a shot the next time you're in Japan! You can find them all over the place.

Mountain Biking in Japan | Shinshiro XC MTB Trail 【新城富岡MTBコース】
Today we’ll be riding mountain bikes at the Shinshiro XC mountain bike course in Shinshiro city, SE Aichi prefecture, Japan. Lately I haven’t been riding my mtb much since there are not many places for me to ride nearby my home. But today, my buddy Sean is driving so we’re able to get to some better trails.
The trail ended up being mostly smooth doubletrack with a lot of elevation gain. We were able to get about 15km in per loop without repeating the same trail sections, so there’s some decent length to the trail. Although there is no real difficult sections, it was still a great place to ride my mountain bike (which I’ve been neglecting lately) and get a good workout in with some nice views along the way.
This course is actually a dedicated MTB course, and is completely free to ride. There are not many dedicated MTB trails in Japan, and most of the ones that do exist cost money, so this was some very welcome news. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the Aichi area or SW side of Shizuoka since this is pretty close to Hamamatsu.
