Places to see in ( Orleans - France )
Orléans is a city on the banks of the Loire River in north-central France, and it’s the capital of the Centre-Val de Loire region. Joan of Arc famously saved the city from English siege in 1429, an event celebrated with an annual festival. A re-creation of the house where she stayed during the battle, the Maison de Janne d’Arc, features multimedia exhibits on her life.
Orleans is a city in north-central France, about 111 kilometres (69 mi) southwest of Paris. Orleans is the capital of the Loiret department and of the Centre-Val de Loire region. Orléans is located on the Loire River where the river curves south towards the Massif Central. New Orleans (French: La Nouvelle-Orléans), in Louisiana, United States, is named after the city.
TAO manages buses and tram lines in Orléans. Orléans is an autoroute intersection : the A10 (linking Paris to Bordeaux) links to the commune outskirts, and A71 (whose bridge over the Loire is outside the commune limits) begins here, heading for the Mediterranean via Clermont-Ferrand (where it becomes the A75). Orléans is served by two main railway stations: the central Gare d'Orléans and the Gare des Aubrais-Orléans, in the northern suburbs. Most long-distance trains call only at the Les Aubrais-Orléans station, which offers connections to Paris, Lille, Tours, Brive-la-Gaillarde, Nevers, and several regional destinations.

France: The City of Besançon
Besançon is the capital of the department of Doubs and the former capital of Franche-Comté, a region in eastern France close to the border with Switzerland. In 2013, Besançon had a population of 116,952.
Once proclaimed the first green city of France, it has been labeled a Town of Art and History since 1986. Since 2008, the Citadel of Besançon has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city has one of the most beautiful historic centers of any major town in France. A broad horse-shoe of the river Doubs, la Boucle, encircles the old town, while Vauban's imposing Citadelle blocks off the neck. The historic center presents a remarkable ensemble of classic stone buildings, some dating back to the Middle Ages and others to the Spanish Renaissance. Among its most visited historic monuments are: several Roman remains, the 16th-century Palais Granvelle, Vauban's citadel (Citadel of Besançon) (this wil be the subject of one of my next videos), the Cathedral of St. Jean, several Spanish Renaissance-style buildings, the Église de la Madeleine, and the river frontage.

Rue de Nevers (Paris, France) Friday Evening

It was a bit crazy what we did, to drive into Paris on a Friday evening just before La Rentrée (back to school, back to work) at the end of August. Traffic was jammed at points but we went through a big, grungy part of Paris, shown on other clips, full of prostitutes and sweatshops. Human misery. Prostitutes are often found in black hair salons, appearing to wait for appointments, but in fact, there to be picked up. The whole Sébastapol area, or whatever it is called these days, is full of dirty passages, the buildings are full of decorative motifs but sooty, and it's not at all chic. This is not far from Les Halles.
We always seem to find free, legal parking right by the River Seine and here, we walk down Rue de Nevers, starting through a grand arch. Across the Seine, you can see many fine buildings with beautiful terraces full of plants and flowers.
We enjoy going to see old movies, and have a subscription to a series of revival houses. Attendance is usually good, and the subscription price is quite low. You get a loyalty card and a free pass every ten visits, but the window of opportunity is relatively short -- two months, I think.
Rélais Christine is a four-star hotel across from the movie house, which has two screening rooms, and it's quite fascinating to watch the well-heeled traffic come and go. This evening, fancy, discreet cars dropped off groups of Asiatics (they looked Japanese to me) to dine at Le Christine. Someone from the restaurant was expecting the car and greeted and escorted the guests inside. Fancy taxis blocked the narrow street while they dropped off travelers to the Rélais, or waited for new fares to appear (it is forbidden to hail cabs in most of France -- you must phone or go to a hack stand). It didn't seem to bother anyone -- most of the streets are narrow and one-way, it is forbidden to honk your horn in France, and when people see the way is blocked they tend to back off, perhaps to wait and try later.

Places to see in ( Lourdes - France ) Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes
Places to see in ( Lourdes - France ) Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes or the Domain is an area of ground surrounding the Catholic shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes in the town of Lourdes, France. The Sanctuary is a destination for pilgrimage; sick pilgrims are reputed to be miraculously healed by Lourdes water. This ground is owned and administrated by the Roman Catholic Church, and has several functions, including devotional activities, offices, and accommodation for sick pilgrims and their helpers.
The Domain includes the Grotto itself, the nearby taps which dispense the Lourdes water, and the offices of the Lourdes Medical Bureau, as well as several churches and basilicas. It comprises an area of 51 hectares, and includes 22 separate places of worship. There are six official languages of the Sanctuary: French, English, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and German. Grottos intended as replicas of the one at Our Lady of Lourdes, and other grottos in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes, are often described as Lourdes grottos.
Beginning on 11 February 1858, a 14-year-old peasant girl named Bernadette Soubirous claimed to have experienced a series of apparitions of a girl dressed in white and with a blue belt around her waist, who eventually introduced herself as the Immaculate Conception, a name by which the Virgin Mary was known. On land bordered by a loop of the Gave de Pau river is an outcrop of rock called Massabielle, (from masse vieille: old mass). On the northern aspect of this rock, near the river bank, is a naturally occurring, irregularly shaped shallow cave or grotto, in which the apparitions took place.
The Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes is responsible for the spiritual governance of the Domain. He appoints a local representative, who is called the Rector. The Domain is run independently of the parish of Lourdes, which is responsible for the spiritual needs of the Lourdais themselves.
Lourdes water flows from a spring at the same spot where it was discovered by Bernadette. The original spring can be seen within the Grotto, lit from below and protected by a glass screen. Pilgrims drink Lourdes water due to its reputed healing power. The water is accessed from individual tap located between the grotto and the baths, The water from Lourdes was thoroughly analysed by independent chemists in 1858 and 1859, and does not appear to have a latent power to cure and has no special scientific or medicinal properties. Despite this, the water is itself a strong symbol of devotion for Lourdes pilgrims, and many buy statues and rosary beads containing small vials of it, and take home large plastic containers of it.
The Crypt was the first of the churches to be completed in the Domain, and is today among the smallest. Construction was started by Abbé Peyramale and Mgr. Laurence. Bernadette's father worked on its construction and was present at its official opening, on Pentecost Sunday, 1866. The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, known widely as the Upper Basilica, was the second of the churches to be completed, consecrated in 1876. The Rosary Basilica is the third of the churches to be completed, in 1899 and designed by architect Leopold Hardy. The open space in front of the Rosary Basilica is known as Rosary Square.
St. Joseph's Chapel is situated at the far end of the Esplanade, near St. Michael's Gate. It is a modern, concrete church, mostly underground, with little natural light. It was also designed by Pierre Vago, and was consecrated on 1 May 1968. It has provision for 450 seated worshippers and 80 wheelchairs. The Chapel of Reconciliation formerly occupied a site slightly more remote, at the entrance of the Upper Stations of the Cross.

Paris In Under 2 Minutes
Video 4 of 14 from Brad and Sue's 2015 France vacation.
We did not drive downtown Paris to see the Eiffel Tower. That would be like trying to drive an RV into New York City just to see the Empire State Building. I did, however, get video of the Eiffel Tower on our return flight from Paris to Minneapolis. I consider this an official Eiffel Tower sighting.
