Zacatecas is a state of Mexico, located in the northern region. It is bounded to the northwest by Durango, to the north by Coahuila, to the east by San Luis Potosí, to the south by Aguascalientes and Guanajuato and to the southwest by Jalisco and Nayarit. The state is best known for its rich deposits of silver ore, its colonial architecture and its importance during the revolution. Zacatecas has 58 municipalities and the main economic activities are mining, agriculture and tourism. Zacatecas, Mexico
Located in Mexico's northwestern region, the state of Zacatecas was one of the most important mining regions during the colonial era and it played a key role in the Mexican Revolution. In Zacatecas, the state capital, you'll see magnificent architecture of pink quarry stone as you walk along the sloped streets, alleys and through the plazas. Among the notable edifices are the Cathedral, considered one of the best examples of Mexican Baroque architecture, and the Calderon Theater in the downtown area. The UNESCO declared the Historic Center of Zacatecas a World Heritage Site.
You'll also find numerous cultural events in the state capital, such as the Zacatecas Festival and the Zacatecas International Folklore Festival, which features performances by folkloric groups from various countries. For a panoramic view of Zacatecas, we recommend that you take a ride on the suspended cable car, which crosses the city from Cerro de la Bufa to Cerro del Grillo, allowing you to get a bird's-eye view of the beautiful architecture. After that you can visit the Museo de la Toma de Zacatecas and the Eden mine, where you can take a tour on an old mine train.
In other parts of the state you can visit the city of Fresnillo, where nearby you'll find a famous sanctuary and the towns of Guadalupe and Jerez. As for natural attractions, you can go hiking in the Sierra de Organos and the Sierra de Cardos, where you'll see impressive rock formations, making them the ideal spots for rappelling and other adventure sports. During your visit to Zacatecas, don't forget to explore La Quemada, one of the northern region's most important archaeological zones.

Warnings haven't stopped travelers from discovering the magic of Mexico!
In spite of the warnings into Mexico, North American tourists haven't stopped traveling to this marvelous nation!
The US Department of State recently issued a traveling warning into Mexico, which informs in a broader sense about the security status of the nation, lived in several states particularly in the north region and Pacific side of Mexico.
This document (better known as a warning) also emphasizes that there are several states where it isn't so safe to visit, like Guerrero, Jalisco, Nayarit, Sinaloa, San Luis Potosi, Coahuila, Colima, Michoacan, Nuevo Leon, Zacatecas, Tamaulipas and Durango, meaning that you may want to think it twice before traveling to them.
This warning replaces another one issued some months ago, on July 12th 2013. Having said this, it's important to mention that this press release states that-and I quote: It's hard to determine where future violent acts may take place; which certainly leaves the gate wide open for speculations of all kinds.
There is a contrast in this entire situation: According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, during the year 2013, the highest number of passengers and visitors of all kinds into Mexico, came from North America, which certainly rest assures that violence isn't lived in every corner of Mexico.
During the closing of the third trimester of the year which just ended (2013), over 15 million North American tourists arrived to Mexico, which is at least one million more than the previous year (2012). This means that over 32% of North American visitors that travel the world, pick Mexico as their final destination and also stay at least one night.
Welcome to Guadalajara Mexico
Welcome to Guadalajara Mexico, The city of Guadalajara was established in five other places before moving to its current location. The first settlement in 1532 was in Mesa del Cerro, now known as Nochistlán, Zacatecas. This site was settled by Cristóbal de Oñate as commissioned by Nuño de Guzmán, with the purpose of securing recent conquests and defending them against the still-hostile natives. The settlement did not last long at this spot due to the lack of water; in 1533 it was moved to a location near Tonalá. Four years later, Guzmán ordered that the village is moved to Tlacotán. While the settlement was in Tlacotán, the Spanish king Charles I granted the coat of arms that the city still has today.
This settlement was ferociously attacked during the Mixtón War in 1543 by Caxcan, Portecuex and Zacateco peoples under the command of Tenamaxtli. The war was initiated by the natives due to the cruel treatment of Indians by Nuño de Guzmán, in particular, the enslavement of captured natives. Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza had to take control of the campaign to suppress the revolt after the Spanish were defeated in several engagements. The conflict ended after Mendoza made some concessions to the Indians such as freeing the Indian slaves and granting amnesty.
The village of Guadalajara barely survived the war, and the villagers attributed their survival to the Archangel Michael, who remains the patron of the city. It was decided to move the city once again, this time to Atemajac, as it was more defensible. The city has remained there to this day. In 1542, records indicate that 126 people were living in Guadalajara and, in the same year, the status of the city was granted by the king of Spain. Guadalajara was officially founded on February 14, 1550, in the Valley of Atemajac. The settlement's name came from the Spanish hometown of Nuño de Guzmán
