The Aare Gorge is a section of the river Aare that carves through a limestone ridge near the town of Meiringen, in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. The gorge is an indirect product of glaciation; 10,000 years ago, just as the Ice Age was coming to an end, torrential runoff water from melting glaciers eroded a deep, narrow chasm through the limestone barrier. Although barely one mile long, this passage is bordered by sheer cliffs up to 165 feet high on either side. The population of the village Lauterbrunnen is less than that of Wengen, but larger than that of the others.

The waterfall drops 297 metres from a hanging valley that ends in overhanging cliffs above the Weisse Lütschine.The stream, on reaching the verge of the rocky walls of the valley, forms a cascade so high that it is almost lost in spray before it reaches the level of the valley. The cost for riding on the Trolley is 1 dollar for an adult. Kids can ride for free as long as an adult is with them. Also, exact change is required to ride on the bus and the drivers do not have the ability to make change.

Service for the Trolley bus will be operating Monday through Thursday from 11am to 7pm. During Friday, Saturday, and Sunday it is open to 10am to 10pm. Between May 28 and Sept 3, the Trolleys will be available 10am-10pm. The Trolley typically arrives at every stop approximately every 30 minutes.
