Olancho is the largest of all the 18 departments into which Honduras is divided. The department covers a total surface area of 24,057 km² and has an estimated 2015 population of 537,306 inhabitants. The departmental capital is Juticalpa, which is also the see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Juticalpa, which covers the department.

1. Talgua Caves Catacamas
Talgua Cave, , is a cave located in the Olancho Valley in the municipality of Catacamas in northeastern Honduras. The misnomer “The Cave of the Glowing Skulls” was given to the cave because of the way that light reflects off of the calcite deposits found on the skeletal remains found there. The site has gained the interest of archaeologists studying cave burials of Central America and of Mesoamerica as one of the most extensive Early to Middle Pre-Classic ossuary cave sites currently known to have been in contact with the Maya societies of nearby Mesoamerica. It provides many valuable clues to how the inhabitants of the Talgua Cave may have been an important link between Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica and parts further south and east in Central America and extending into those societies in ...

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WATERFALL IN HONDURAS

This is Ojo De Agua River, part of Sierra De Agalta National Park in eastern Honduras, this waterfall was discovered in 1995, only a few people have been there since then, the entire mountain is pristine, i could not believe when i new the waterfall was also going to be detroyed to bild a hidroelectrical project, i did everything i could to save not just this waterfall but the rest of them in Sierra De Agalta, but i did not get support from people, i also talked to the last two Presidents who are both from Olancho where Sierra De Agalta National Park is, but they showed no interest, i thik these Mountains could have been the most important site for ecoturism in Central America and people from the surrounding villages could have improved their way of living, unfortunately Hondurans do not realize that
