The weevils (harri zulaketa in basque) is a rural sport basque that consists in making holes in stones helped by a long bar of steel.

Since the late NINETEENTH century and during the first third of the TWENTIETH century, the craft of borer was very common in the mining sites, where it was necessary to perforate the rock by means of drilling rods (steel rods of about 2 meters in length and several pounds of weight) for introducing the explosives, which are then made to explode in blasting controlled and thus to be able to extract the rocks containing the ore of iron. In those times, this work was done by brute force, without the use of any machine, so it was a trade of special hardness and, therefore, very much appreciated, perceiving the specialist weevil higher wages than the rest.

This tough activity motivated these professionals would like to demonstrate to others their strength and skill in the craft, causing great admiration among the audience. The law of Sunday rest, 1904 facilitated the meetings of idlers in the places of the mining towns, which soon began to gather around the spectacle that protagonizaban the weevil. From the first moment, came bets on who could make the hole deeper or in less time and soon it organized championships of weevils that came a crowd of spectators. The gambling money was also a major bonus for the few weevils that stood out above the rest.
At the beginning of the 30's, before the Civil War, the championships of weevils disappeared. With the arrival of machinery (hydraulic hammers and compressors), the drilling ceased to be necessary in quarries and mines. In this way, with the end of the trade ended in this popular sport, until its recent recovery.
Recovery[edit]
This sport is recovered in Ortuella, in the festivities of the municipality of 1998, which before 1930 was rather popular in the festivals of the peoples of the region minera of Biscay. From this first trial in 1998, there have been several equipment, mainly on the Left bank, that have created a league of competition. In 2012 took place the XIV edition of the League of Weevils of the Basque Country.

Mucho Enduro del bueno, en la primera carrera por etapas del año, la Endurama SunRace.
Un grupo selecto de participantes han tenido el placer de disfrutar de los senderos de la Villa de Ojén, Málaga.
Una temperatura de 17º y unas vistas espléndidas al mar, han acompañado a los participantes, entre los cuales se encontraba el Rider de Berg Cycles Marco Fidalgo, que según sus declaraciones ha terminado la jornada “con buen sabor de boca”, tras este prólogo inicial de la prueba.
A las 11:00 de la mañana se daba la salida a los participantes de la carrera de Enduro de 4 días, que recorrerá más de 13 tramos por las escarpadas laderas de esta localidad.
Tramos técnicos y con mucho flow, que han dejado ver lo mejor de los riders y que sin duda han disfrutado.
La etapa ha transcurrido por la zona del Cerezal y Majalechá.
El prólogo ha consistido en una toma de contacto inicial, con un total de 17Km y 900m de desnivel acumulado y que ha concluido con el siguiente podium provisional:

La segunda etapa, comenzará mañana día 3 de Marzo de 2017 a las 10:00h y discurrirá por la zona de las antenas. Para lo cual se remontará dos veces a los riders con el fin de que disfruten de las bajadas y eliminen cansancio en las piernas que sin duda acumularán tras 4 días de apasionantes bajadas por senderos técnicos.

Lots of Enduro in day one of the year´s first Stages Race, Endurama SunRace.
A selected group of participants, had the pleasure to enjoy the tracks by Ojen - Málaga, where the 4 days race will take place.
A temperature of 17º and great sea views joined the riders, including the the Berg Cycles Rider Marco Fidalgo. The rider declared after finishing the first day he had a great Enduro day.
At 11:00AM the race started, than will cover during the 4 days a total of 13 tracks by the steep slopes on this great town and perfect location for Enduro.
The first day covered the areas of The Cerezal and Majalechá.
The prologue consisted on a inicial 17km and 900m accumulated that finished with this provisional podium:

The second race day, will start tomorrow 3rd March 2017 at 10:00 AM and will cover the area of “Las Antenas”. The riders will enjoy 2 lifts to cover the 4 stages, so they can keep some energy in their legs, to be able to finish this 4 days race, full of amazing tech downhills.
